Nintendo Wii News | Built-in Camera, Improved Hardware and More!

By Karn Spydar Lee Bianco 07.06.2006 60

DigitalBattle.com are reporting that an upcoming issue of gaming magazine Game Informer has been leaked, it allegedly contains some very interesting details about the Wii.

As previously speculated the console will include a built in camera allowing users to take pictures of themselves and scan them onto characters within the game. This technology was shown by Nintendo many years ago using the Game Boy Camera peripheral, could it really be making a comeback?

For those that are worried about the Wii being underpowered thus not allowing for an intense gaming experience similar to those provided by the XBOX 360 can rest easy if these reports are true. The Wii will feature a specific physics processor complete with 32mb of dedicated ram!

As if that weren't enough a headset will also be available (or may even be included with the console itself) putting fears of a poor online system somewhat to fear. Whilst Nintendo have revealed they will be sticking to the online system present with the DS, a headset reeks of XBOX live which is surely good news for broadband fans.

Finally the article states that Nintendo will release official SD memory cards that range from 2Gb up to 7Gb, however there is no final price as of yet.

Omgsh, whats up in your bonnet?

As previously speculated the console will include a built in camera allowing users to take pictures of themselves and scan them onto characters within the game. This technology was shown by Nintendo many years ago for the ill-fated 64-DD, could it really be making a comeback?

No it wasn't. There was a Mario Paint spin-off 3D modelling tool on the 64DD, and a dropped Perfect Dark feature that allowed you to use the GameBoy camera to put your mum's face on guards.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

at the moment this has no more credibility than that other article, but if the mag does break the news all that unbeleivable shite in that article suddenly becomes believable shite.

FINE.

A 7GB sd card ain't gonna be cheap, considering nintendo isn't exactly famed for cheap memory cards.. might as well hook it up to an external HD no?

official SD memory cards that range from 2Gb up to 7Gb

I thought the biggest SD card available at the moment was 4GB? (and i thought it always doubled as well, so the nest one would be 8GB?) And 2GB would probably be quite expensive at launch for the smallest memory card.

This technology was shown by Nintendo many years ago for the ill-fated 64-DD, could it really be making a comeback?

It was shown with that other game, but I can't remember what it's called! It was shown at E3 a few years ago and you could take a picture with a GBA camera, link it into the Cube and then it asked you some personality questions and came up with a 'virtual you'. I remember they had a Miyamoto in the game! Anyone else know what I mean?

I think i remember that, I just remember a picture in a magazine with shigsy, Iwata and Yamauchi in a classroom orsomthin with pikmin and stuff.

I'm hoping you can use regular SD cards (like the ones you'd use for your digital camera or stuff like that). 2GB would be exspensive...plus if you can only use "official" cards, that'd probably jack the price up a bit more.

That was Gamecube, that classroom game that was canned.

Headsets! Yay! If theres proper chat in game Ill put up with the friends codes Smilie

The controllers use cameras anyway, its how the positioning system works. (they using motion tracking on the UV lights).

So far from an add-on, the cameras will probably littarly be the controllers we have already seen.

Personaly, I am skeptical of this information.

Seems utterly pointless.
8Gig SD's are already on the market but amazingly expensive, and Nintendo has a partnership with Panasonic anyway...so its going to be no more then panasonic saleing ones with a nintendo lable on :p

As for headset...with a speaker in the remote?
Unlikely, imo.
More likely is its just held like a telephone.

Then again, the DS has an official headset.

Wow! If this news is true, then this is surely the most feature packed console of all time!! (dont start with dvd crap, hardrive etc thats not GAMING! Smilie)
Its amazing what a little less development costs spent on the graphics can pay for..Smilie...

It does?

I think it's a crock of shit that somebody posted on a forum. Why would they release 7Gb SD cards? A camera built INTO the system would be awkward. 32Mb PPUs are also the best about if I'm not mistaken, I doubt they could get one in for the price.
