Nintendo Wii News | Built-in Camera, Improved Hardware and More!

By Karn Spydar Lee Bianco 07.06.2006 60

DigitalBattle.com are reporting that an upcoming issue of gaming magazine Game Informer has been leaked, it allegedly contains some very interesting details about the Wii.

As previously speculated the console will include a built in camera allowing users to take pictures of themselves and scan them onto characters within the game. This technology was shown by Nintendo many years ago using the Game Boy Camera peripheral, could it really be making a comeback?

For those that are worried about the Wii being underpowered thus not allowing for an intense gaming experience similar to those provided by the XBOX 360 can rest easy if these reports are true. The Wii will feature a specific physics processor complete with 32mb of dedicated ram!

As if that weren't enough a headset will also be available (or may even be included with the console itself) putting fears of a poor online system somewhat to fear. Whilst Nintendo have revealed they will be sticking to the online system present with the DS, a headset reeks of XBOX live which is surely good news for broadband fans.

Finally the article states that Nintendo will release official SD memory cards that range from 2Gb up to 7Gb, however there is no final price as of yet.

Why can't it be like the DS??

How can it be like the DS? The Mic would have to be on the controller if it wasn't on a headset, and since you're waving the controller about, you'd have to stop aiming or whatever everytime you speak (which would ruin the game). On the DS you are holding the thing still, and not too far from your mouth, and besides, on the DS the only game with voice uses it only in lobbies.

You have to be able to communicate with your team on team games. That's why everytime you get matched with a load of morons with no headset on Halo 2, you usualy loose because they can't tell you where the other team is or whether there is somone stalking you with a plasma sword.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Plus you would look a bit odd talking to your self, with a head set at least people know your online with people.Smilie

I did say I would rather scream than wear those thingsSmilie

You forget about them after a while. Every time I use my Xbox I wear my headset, even when I won't use it, because it feels wrong without it.

Man, I sure hope that Game Informer is right. Oh, and there has been more than one source that has hinted at a PPU, so that one sounds fairly realistic (one of them being ATI).

I heard somewhere they were going to put a tin opener in it...Smilie

I don't see how Nintendo can squeeze all this sheeznit into Wii and keep the price down, let alone retain the system's tiny dimensions. Of course it'd be absolutely sexy if they could, and I have no doubt that all these functions will appear sooner or later as peripherals. But people are being a tad optimistic if they think this stuff is all going to fit in for a wallet-friendly

Less posty, more gamey.

I hate to sound rude but, seriously wake the fuck up. Do you not wear headphones? It's barely different. You don't really feel them on your head. A mic and speaker away from you is no compromise to a headset.

The wii needs a headset. If it doesn't im going to be SEVERELY disappointed. Whatever happens though, XBox live is THE online service. I doubt WFC onw ii will be a patch on it.

Could you please translate the following phrase into English?

"...putting fears of a poor online system somewhat to fear."

Indeed it does, I am STILL waiting for Nintendo to release a head set for the DS!
