Nintendo News | Take-Two Look To Wii

Posted by By (Mason) 37 Number of reads 34700

Take-Two Interactive, a publisher and developer whose subsidary companies include Rockstar Games and 2K Games, have recently posted losses of $50.4 million for the quarter ending April 30th. They put this down to the new console transition period and expenses from closing three studios. However, in a surprising move - Take-Two have traditionally not been so favourable towards Nintendo - the company appear to be looking towards Wii for additional revenue.

"The positive for us is that we haven't been a big player in the Nintendo platform," said president and CEO Paul Eibeler. "The reception that received at the E3 show is one that makes us take a real strong look at it. As we grow our sports business, there are opportunities with our sports games to extend them to the Wii system, particularly if you look at baseball, where we have an exclusive arrangement, as well as some of the other sports games that would play extremely well on the Wii product."

"...And some of the 2K products will be, have an opportunity on the Wii. It's really a late '07, '08 opportunity for us, but it presents an additional revenue stream that we didn't have before."

While it's true that the company could be a little late to the party in that they would be releasing titles a while away yet, the support is certainly encouraging, especially from a company that has shyed from Nintendo for years.

They published quite a few N64 games, e.g. Space Station: Silicon valley (awesome game). That was by DMA design, who became Rockstar North. Possibly Body Harvest as well.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

better late then never.

But me, being no sports-game fan at all, would encourage Take2 to release other games for Wii. Maybe even GTA (I never played this game either. Didn't like the setting)?
The best game from DNA-Design was Blood Money for Amiga.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Don't forget Lemmings! Great game, and ported to just about everything.

Bloody hell, they even made Uniracers, my most played SNES ROM.

I'd love to see Lemmings on the Wii, as well as a sequel to Body Harvest... man that'd be sweet...

Yep, they were an N64 supporter, but they've done very little for Gamecube in terms of exclusives/non-shovelware, and I believe their 2K Sports support dropped off fairly quickly.

EDIT: And yes, they were responsible for Body Harvest as well (DMA).

hmm GTA on Wii it could work... todo a wheelie on a bike pull back on the controller and balance it... lol?

Cubed3 Member

Probably not GTA. but its nice to see some support from them anyway. The GC lacked sports titles, so hopefully the Wii will have the same amount that the PS2 and XB got.

I remember getting lemmings on the mega drive...was such a dissapointing present.
I'm not really expecting anything major from them other than a few sports titles and maby a crappy racing game.

Its kinda interesting the way they call it another source of revenue as opposed to a new experience in game development. Surely they are only in it for the money then...

That's because they're a publisher, not a developer.

How the hell could anyone who publishes GTA (Or Sony) be in it for anything but the money?

I thought the 2K sports range was published by SEGA, I've played one or two of them and are defnitely on par with everything else out there.

It was until recently, Take Two just got a load of exclusive sports rights etc.

A publisher that brings some important potential developers.

I doubt Nintendo will want a hot coffee issue on their resumes...

That might be the perfect pairing actually. 2K games have always been cheaper than mainstream sports games, so how do you keep the price down? Put it on a system thats cheaper to develop for.
