Nintendo Rumours | Star Wars Wii, PS3 Games Switch Sides & More!

T[/size][/b]he latest issue of North America's multi-format gaming magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly, is now available to buy and Cubed3 has the information from the publication's rumour column. Check out the ones that directly, or could indirectly relate to Nintendo, below:

  • A "Massively Multiplayer" Burnout is currently being planned by EA;
  • Third Party companies are shifting many of their projects from the PlayStation 3 to the Wii;
  • Harmonix is working on a new music game;
  • LucasArts is developing a Star Wars game for Nintendo's Wii, in which there are fights with a light sabre;
  • Star Wars Battlefront is being worked on for Next Generation consoles, yet Pandemic is not involved this time.

  • Make of those what you will, but a light sabre Star Wars game on the Wii was rumoured before E3, during E3 and now after E3. It makes too much sense for it not to happen. Also, could we see the return of Burnout to Nintendo this time? And what are your thoughts on Third Parties already shifting focus to the Wii?

    I really have to take this comment with a grain of salt. First the DS is selling like hotcakes, hardware and software. However the PSP is not in either case. Yet the PSP has more third party support than the DS and its third party supporters are continuing to develop games and sequels of games. Now the question is will this happen for the PS3?

    Secondly, the PS3 and the Xbox 360 both support 720p and have similar controllers and are practically the same machine, with the exception of Blue ray support. Therefore if a developer develops a game for the Xbox 360 the same game can be ported to the PS3. The only thing that's hurting the PS3 is its price tag, $600.00.

    Does anyone know how much the games will cost for the PS3?

    All sounds about right. I think the 'third party' thing is quite badly worded. It could just mean that a lot of titles that weren't going to be on Wii and were going to be on PS3 are now on both, ie: they are shifting development of the title to encompass the Wii as well. Take-Two have been muttering about it and a lot of companies are certainly considering the Wii post-E3 (and Nintendo are hugely eager to push it), so I don't see why not.

    MM online Burnout chaos sounds like good fun to me Smilie

    The PS3 is a lot more complicated than the Xbox 360 under the hood, so it isn't as easy as saying "ok, we've got this game for the 360 and we wanna change the game code and shove it on the PS3" because of the way the insides work.

    Oh, and for people who wanna correct me, I'm not saying you cannot port from 360 to PS3, I'm just saying that it isn't so simple.

    There was a post on joystiq about this. Apparently it will be very difficult to port PS3 games to PC. It follows that the same will be true for the 360.

    Think Sony are doing this intentionally.

    Or, microsoft being microsoft, being responsible for the 360 and Windows, may have taken that into account and made a console which is easy to port to and from pc...

    Why would it follow that the 360 is hard to port to pc if the PS3 is? They are completely different machines.

    Anyway, evidence points to the contrary-
    Elder Scrolls IV
    Quake 4
    LOTR Battle for middle earth 2

    Then theres the fact that it can play a whole load of xbox games and the xbox was great for pc ports..

    Sorry for the ambiguity, but you've misunderstood me GR781. I mean that it'll be hard to port from PS3 to PC and from PS3 to 360.

    Of course it'll be easy to port from PC to 360 (both are Direct X, Windows based platforms).

    This is Sony's way of trying to ensure its titles remain exclusive.
