Industry News | Nintendo Confirms No DS Shortages for Final Fantasy III

By Adam Riley 26.06.2006 10

Square Enix is set to release is massive Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy III from the NES on 24th August, 2006 in Japan. Now, the company also supported the DS Lite launch in Japan with Seiken Densetsu: Children of Mana. However, as Nintendo had trouble getting enough systems out, with only the Crystal White version launching in the end, Children of Mana's first week sales were stunted and the game never fully recovered.

Therefore, it is understandable that the RPG behemoth of Square Enix is peturbed a similar situation may arise again with Final Fantasy III, given that Nintendo is STILL having some trouble with DS Lite stock. Shareholders have had their minds put at rest, though, thankfully as Nintendo and Square Enix have been in talks about just such an issue, with Nintendo making firm assurances that there will be very large numbers of DS Lites made available to satiate the high demand for the new role-playing title. With any luck this should help Square Enix claim the prize of second Third Party to sell a million units of one game!

Final Fantasy III is still set for a 2006 Western release, with the US supposedly getting in on 12th September. In the meantime, why not brush up on the game by reading C3's preview of the game:

I think they should be more worried about having enough FFIII games in stock!

It's good that Nintendo is listening to the worries of shareholders and Square Enix. The closer SEx and Nintendo get again the better, in my opinion!

With Square Enix making Mario Basket, it can surely only be a matter of time before either a remake of Super Mario RPG or a sequel...

no doubt it will sell a million copies!!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

It will probably sell over 2million quickly if you go by DQ or FF games and the DS & DSL hardware will rocket. which means more bad news for the PSPoo

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

    Amen!!!

i wonder if it will reach a million faster than mario did. would be cool to see the comparison.

It will probably be top of the Japanese charts for ages. It should reach a million pretty quickly though.

I can't wait for it. Square Enix are really showing what the DS is capable of with this and Mario 3 on 3.
