Nintendo News | DS to Hit Silver Screen

By John Boyle 27.06.2006 27

Nintendo today announced a partnership with upcoming film Stormbreaker. Stormbreaker features 14 year old Alex Rider who is recruited to MI6 after his uncle dies in mysterious circumstances. So he sets off on missions with a plethora of gadgets including a modified Red DS (original model) to discover the truth and serve Queen and country! The cinematic experience stars Alex Pettyfer debuting as Alex Rider, Andy Serkis, Alicia Silverstone, Micky Rourke and Stephen Fry and is pencilled in as the "family friendly" summer blockbuster.

The film is also getting the game treatment courtesy of THQ and will be heading to the DS this July. Could this break the game to film jinx? Well we'll have to wait and see...

Stick with C3 for more news on the game and the film as we near its summer release.

Smilie also ive seen a little preview of the game and it doesnt look that bad graphics are a little bit rough but i assume they will be cleaned up before release, graphics are similar to tony haws american skateland and that can only be a good thing!! LOL, Nintendo returns crying to it's core audience.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Thats a bit of a leap.. it never left its core audience, its just looking for new ones at the same time. Nintendo would be idiots if they didn't still target younger audiences.

There IS such a thing of marketing to many different groups of people and not just focusing on one demographic Smilie

The idea is that the DS acts as a disguise for his spy gear. Seeing a 14 year old kid playing a DS on the street doesn't stand out, as opposed to him using an infrared camera or something.

Yeah...that point makes it a little bit better...I'm still sick to my stomach though. I can just see the ads...
"Stormbreaker! Featuring the Nintendo DS!"

You watch, that'll happen.

Nah, I doubt it, it'll be like that program 2 & a half men, on one episode, the kid called Jake is playing on his DS through most of it, & he calls it a GameBoy Smilie

They'll prolly do that (if they even mention it as a console at all) in this movie. Smilie

Prediction;
Boy turns DS on via volume control, plays it with lid shut and the games he uses feature sound effects from 80's arcade shooter no-one can remember the name of.

I saw that episode what was that all about. An add for a Nissan car i think has the kid playing a silver DS

That's basically what happenned on 2 & a half men, except he did play it with the screen open, & he called it a GameBoy Smilie

Yeah, I remember another show about a doctor, 'Dougie Howser' (anyone else remember?) used to play his GB without a game in the back.

I've read the books, and they're pretty good. Lot darker than you'd imagine. Anyway, the DS is an update of the Gameboy they had in the original. Problem is, I've looked at the previews and it looks like they've changed it a bit.

1"We're mentalist psychic Scots , which means we can read your mind. If you're lying, your head explodes and we laugh."

'Could this break the game to film jinx?' - It part of a long series (7 or so) of kids spy books, so technically it ain't a part of the game film jinx!

Ironicaly, as much as it looks like a cash in, it seems like they were just sticking to the book.

Still, Nintendo should just ignore it and not use it for advertising at all.

DS's has featured in lots of TV shows anyway. Dead Zone was the last one i saw one in.

Ah... Another shit book to movie project. No doubt another shit movie to game project too... Shame... The books weren't bad

sounds interesting!!! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

For the record, I do not particularly want to review it, but I will be reviewing it if a copy shows up because it was a challenge from John. Still, it should be good for a laugh - I'm still hoping it'll somehow end up alright.

No, wait, I don't mean to sound so cynical. This game will be the best game of the year. It will push all boundaries ever set by developers worldwide. THQ will do themselves proud, and two suns will rise upon the day it is released while millions of scantily clad women will collectively, globally, sing the song of joy and have a dozen simultaneous beach parties.

Smilie Star get mike!
