Nintendo News | Wii Production Will Not Affect DS Lite
Recent News
With Nintendo continuing to struggle to supply enough DS Lites for the Japanese market, many were concerned that the Wii would impact even more.
Nintendo of Japan sat back and saw its DS explode over in the Land of the Rising Sun during the Christmas period of 2005 and it struggled to scrabble together sufficient supplies for many months afterwards, including during the launch of the DS Lite in March. There are still reports coming from Japan now that the supply level is still not as high as required to fulfil demand.
Square Enix has already been in talks with Nintendo to ensure there are no stock shortages for the release of Final Fantasy III in late August and, at last week's shareholders meeting, there are fears about how the release of the Wii will impact on the DS Lite.
However, Satoru Iwata has confirmed that both the Wii and DS Lite have separate production lines, so neither will cross the other and there will be no negative impact as a result. There are big plans for the DS Lite this Christmas, with the massive onslaught of new games shown at E3 in May readying for launch.
Good news indeed! And hopefully the Western markets will be looked after in an equally conscientious manner.

Good stuff, I they should have enough Wii's to meet demand. 6 million was it?
This is my newer, bigger, reasonably sized signature. I hope it's not too big.

Well I believe they'll both have 6 million shipped out by the end of year...
Anyway, I'd bloody hope their production doesn't affect each other, that'd be the stupidest move ever. Every news story mentions that Japanese demand for the DS is still outweighing supply - can anybody see the supply going over the demand in the near future over there? Because I sure as hell can't.

Bullshit, Iwata has to assemble 50 a day at home with a "Do-it-yourself revolution kit" in order to meet the obvious demand...
