Nintendo News | Big Brain Academy Hits Today

By Adam Riley 07.07.2006 16

Ever fancied yourself as a genius waiting to be discovered? Or just feel like challenging your family and friends to a mental showdown? Now you can show off your grey matter and pit your wits against your friends as Big Brain Academy launches across Europe today only on the Nintendo DS.

Big Brain Academy, which has already sold a staggering 1.2 million copies in Japan, is the latest in Nintendo's range of innovative Touch! Generations software. You must test your brain and your reaction speed in a series of wacky and addictive games, speed and accuracy are important as each challenge requires you to answer questions in a particular category in just 60 seconds.

The game's tasks are grouped into five categories: Think, memorise, analyse, compute and identify. Each of the categories are then split into a further three sub-categories, providing 15 types of addictively fun exercises to twist, turn and trouble your brain. The game's main modes each focus on a different type of test, developed to provide a fun challenge for different parts of the user's brain. Players can even create their own individual profile in Big Brain Academy allowing them to keep track of their progress in all of the different types of tests.

This game really stands out from the crowd in its multiplayer mode where all of the 15 tests can be attempted in wireless Versus mode, with up to seven friends. In this mode players battle it out to be the first to reach a pre-determined number of points

its cool but ithink i'll get electroplankton today. going in this afternoon to get it.

Me want! I really want to improve my memory and quicken my basic problem solving skills.

I was thinking of getting the first one but now I've got a dilemma. Which one's the best overall game then?

What's the difference between the two?

According to GameCentral Big Brain Academy is not as good, it got 5/10 and Brain Training got 8/10, but check the C3 reviews

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

I reviewed it before, but it's been pushed down, so follow that link and you'll see the differences and the score.

I actually like Big Brain Academy more than brain Training. Maybe that's because BT really does work and is helping my l33t maths skillz but I'm not so sure if BBA is doing the same... I know its improving my memory but it doesnt seem to be helping me in the maths aspects...

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Yeh, I just saw this in HMV yesterday, I didn't know they were releasing it over here!

I hope it's not a mistake to release it so close after Brain Training.

All I've heard so far are three separate people basically asking the same thing 'What's so different between this and Brain Training'?

Personally I'd prefer Electroplankton to shoot up the charts. It's getting good stock numbers in stores around Manchester city centre, which is a decent sign.

I'm ordering a copy for my little brother's birthday via Amazon UK as he loved playing on my Jap import last year.

I'd prefer Electroplankton to do well too, such a lovely unique little title...

I'm just wondering what Nintendo has lined-up for Q3-Q4 here in Europe. With releases drying up very soon (other than Harvest Moon Magical Melody & DS), it needs new stuff...

I'm just hoping they're not bunched too close to Christmas. Pok

Also not too bunched up to Wii. Nintendo are their own worst enemy when it comes to release dates.

Personally I liked brain age much better than this title. The graphics are WAY too 'odd' for my taste, and I actualy liked holding the DS like a book.
