The Top Developers of 2004...
...C3 Delves into the Future!

Famitsu recently conducted a survey about who will be the most successful in the year 2004. The question was posed to game developers, stores and the general public. The results can be seen below (in order of proposed success):

1.) Square Enix
2.) Nintendo
3.) Namco
4.) Sega
5.) Capcom
6.) Konami

Considering the survey was composed in Japan there is no wonder that Square Enix, the result of two RPG heavy-weight companies joining forces, topped the table, especially when you look at its line-up of PlayStation 2 games that are on the horizon. It is also pleasing to know that ties with Nintendo have once again been established, as Nintendo really does need a company of that stature supporting it in the next generation of consoles. The company has at least one Nintendo product due for the new year, and it is a large one - Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA. The Disney-themed RPG series has been pegged as the third tier in the future of Square Enix - following Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest - therefore there will be a lot riding on this and Kingdom Hearts 2 on the PS2. Will we see a KH game on the GameCube? Doubtful...but do not rule out a NE5 appearance. Also, watch out for a nice surprise announcement from Square Enix on the 'Cube this coming year - many people will have forgotten about the news story we ran a while back about how the Crystal Chronicles team had started up a new project, but I am here to remind you!

Nintendo itself still manages to hold second position, which is quite a feat since according to many analysts the company is on its last legs! With games like Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime 2, Geist, Donkey Kong Island, a new Zelda using the Wind Waker engine and Paper Mario hitting the streets it is extremely unlikely that Nintendo will be weakened over the year...and that is only its GC line-up - remember that there is a new Kirby GBA game coming, and with the last one selling over 750,000 copies its definitely one to watch, Pok
