With reports of various DS lites receiving small cracks on their hinges, Nintendo have officially addressed the issue to confirm that only a small amount of units have been affected by the unfortunate damage.

According to gaming blog Kotaku, Nintendo provided the following statement:

"In the U.S. the reported number of small cosmetic cracks in the plastic hinge of DS Lite systems represents less than 0.02 percent of the total units sold.

This cosmetic issue in no way impacts the gameplay or integrity of the DS Lite. Nintendo stands behind the quality of our products and encourages DS Lite owners to contact our Customer Service Department if they are not happy with the functionality of their systems."

A reader informed Kotaku that when calling Nintendo's customer service, they offered to repair the cracked DS Lite free of charge. The company would investigate to ensure the damage wasn't caused my misuse on the owner's behalf and make any necessary repairs if otherwise.

It seems Nintendo are offering a free repair service for the Lites for the cracks don't, at present, appear to be a major issue.

    Stay tuned for further updaes.

So if the crack appeared after dropping it they won't repair it, even if it only cracked because of their poor manufacturing process?

What would happen if it had a crack due to poor manufactuing but then you excadently dropped it?

May be happening due to mechanical pressure and the fused two plastic shells there, a colorful one (white, black, pink) and the transparent one. These cracks may appear due to the 2 thin plastic layers and stress there. The plastic layer, that handles the hinges is intact and the thin one that covers the other one, cracks.

When you drop it later you only have to prove that this crack was there before dropping (that is difficult). When you drop it afterwards, you can have it repaired, but must pay for it. That's fair imho. You just can not blame Ninty for not repairing due to 'foolishness' of the user, to speak it out very boldly...

I think they won't be too strict on the cracks, but if it looks blatantly like you've not taken too much care and there are loads of cracks, they'd consider not repairing it - or at least charging you a little bit for it.

If you drop it, it's your fault not Nintendo's

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the cliché. They were the statement and the definition."
