Quick News: According to a source speaking to reputable gaming blog Kotaku, various developers have been receiving mysterious packages containing complete Wii dev kits to create titles for the unique system. However still unconfirmed, this could prove essential to get as many developers and titles for the console with third-party games being a key factor for a successful sale.

Not so great for those who've already spent thousands on them.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Meh, they're only about 2000Smilie

~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

Hopefully this means more top class developers are more intersted in the Wii and it's controller

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

It would be great to get a lot more smaller studios on board - would hopefully encourage more people to get into designing and building Wii games!

They're supposed to be cheap anyway, so surely is a developer wanted one, they'd have bought it?

Every developer who buys a kit can haul it on the taxes, so It does not cost most of them anything anyway. I think it is intended as a bonus for reluctant great developers (And they won't get fourhundert for free but maybe one or two) to check the possibilities and small ones who can not afford one even if they get their money back with the taxes later.
Developing a console-game isn't devkit alone, you have to spend a lot of it in production, license-fee to Nintendo and do not forget the costs for keeping the company running...
So it is merely an appetite-bite,, methinks...

But I think it's cool, nonetheless.
Think of Microsoft gaming studio, Rare or SOE receiving such a package and they shout: "Hmmm... very good. Boss? Can't we develop for Wii?"

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I'm just happy to think that after a solid year and a half of hearing about the dev kits "being 70%" or "85.112376418% done", that they are finaly complete. So now developers can get their hands on them, (curtosy of "Da N"), fully optimised, and now be blown away by the completeness of Nintendo's original vision. Plus only a handfull of Developers have "Purchased" their dev kits from Nintendo in the first place. Most of them have been donated by Nintendo to the Developers from the start. I cant help but think that creating an affordable dev kit was not solely a move made to bennefit the pockets of the Dev teams, but, moreover, to bennefit the pockets of Nintendo where as they could simply "Give Away" the kits to Dev teams, thus courting 3rd parties for fruitfull future support. Which BTW reflects a comment made by Nintendo, where Iwata said they were trying to focus on creating better relationships with bigger 3rd party developers, as aposed to 2nd party ones.

Maybe they are trying to show some reluctant developers how easy or fun it is to develop for Wii, or something along those lines.

Maby it's dumbed down ones just for VC development?

Surely you could just use a GC or N64 or SNES (etc) DK to make a VC game?. It uses the same architecture, right?

Not sure, maby but i'm just speculating. Seems quite strange to send out free dev kits to small developers while big companies who have bought them have to go through shit loads of NDAs and stuff.

i think it is what hs already been covered. i.e its a way to tempt some sony/ms devs to look at the wii as a good investment. its good for nintendo to do this and hopefully we'll get some games out of it. small devs need a little help too and the kits could help them to secure publishers.

Hello, mich Tschermaness ist coming sru again... *g*

News now said, they sent these devkits to small developers only. Maybe a gift, maybe a sign 'we will not let you down and we will help you earning money. Just give us some'. No, seriously: small development-companies have the best ideas using the Wiimote in a grrrreat way. So Nintendo slimes them. Good idea...
