Lucky gamers are about to get a major treat courtesy of French outfit Ubisoft. IGN is reporting that other than the exclusive Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, Ubisoft has revealed a wealth of other titles that are all due during the launch window of the Nintendo Wii!

President & Chief Operating Officer for Nintendo of America, Reggie-Fils Aime, stated:

"We're thrilled that Ubisoft will be unveiling Wii versions of both exclusive new IP and established franchises. Bursting with creativity, innovation and unadulterated fun, these Ubisoft games embody the qualities that will make Wii a huge hit with gamers new and established, young and old."

In return, Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft North America, had this to say:

"Media and analysts agree that Ubisoft has the greatest potential for reward with the new console's launch because we believed in its potential from the beginning. With an impressive lineup of launch games that offer something for everyone, we are in a unique position to benefit from the Wii's success in appealing to both new and hardcore gamers."

So the list of games is as follows:

  • Far Cry,
  • Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII,
  • Monster 4x4 World Circuit,
  • Open Season,
  • GT Pro Series (an exclusive from MTO - the makers of the decent GT Advance 1-3 games on the GBA, as well as *ahem* Dogz and Catz on the same handheld),
  • Red Steel (exclusive),
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids.

  • And there is the promise of "many more titles in development" for Nintendo's upcoming Wii. IGN also has a very interesting interview about this news here:

  • IGN Interview with Laurent Detoc

Fantastic news - really pleasing to see such strong support from Ubisoft. Perhaps we'll eventually see Beyond Good & Evil again.

With EA, Square Enix and Sega also firmly on-board, there's going to be no looking back when Wii launches Smilie

Does that mean Far Cry is going to be a launch game?

    I've just realised...

Valve has noooo reason not to release Halflife 2 on the Wii!

So, that probably makes 3 good games. Nice to have at launch from one developer of course.

I suggest that all those wanting to show that Wii isn't just an alternative non-gamer's console prepare to buy FarCry at launch. Money talks and hopefully it'll talk to the likes of Valve and ID software.

Score! The list I posted ages ago was mainly correct! Fab support from Ubisoft, only Prince Of Persia is missing from the retail list. Smilie

EDIT: And even that has now apparently been confirmed...hopefully it's true...

the problem is that all of you are just going "whohoo farcry". ok so it looks like that one will sell the interview says something about farcry instincts evolution or something. so is that good or bad i dont know. we know rayman and redsteel are bound to be good games but the other i dont know. (based on 360 game)

blazing angels was average at best on the 360. it just did nothing for me. open season is a kids game based on animated film due for release. so were left with two driving games. monster 4x4,(an xbox game) ok i've seen all of two shots and these didn't enlarge on ign so i couldn't say if it was good or not. but it will be up against excite truck by nintendo. this is a problem. one will lose out.
gt pro series.(based on 360 game import tuner challange) i have gtadv and its good for a gba game but i'm not sure. has licenced cars though.

it seems as if ports are completely able for the wii. i'll buy the original games of redsteel and rayman.

Three words for ya... Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Lol.

This is fantastic news. I'm really stoked with how much support Ubisoft is throwing behind Wii. Hopefully other 3rd party devs and publishers will follow in their footsteps.

I'm really hoping Ubisoft will take full advantage of all of Wii's capabilities. Not to mention all other 3rd party devs and publishers. This is the one major concern I have with 3rd parties developing for Wii. Poor GameCube was incredibly under-utilized by the majority of 3rd party devs. Instead it was usually stuck with extremely sloppy/shotty ports. So far, things are looking up for the big N.
