Nintendo News | Ubisoft Cashes In On 'Petz' Craze

The phenomenom that is nintendogs caught many by surprise, with the series selling well over seven million units worldwide and finding its greatest popularity here in Europe. Soon after Ubisoft converted MTO's Dogz and Catz for the GBA, succeeding in capturing a large sector of the market with the animal-based games.
Now it is back with more 'Petz'...
Originally Dogz and Catz were PC-only titles, before MTO's GBA editions hit the streets. Now Ubisoft is ready to translate more games for Nintendo systems. In fact, so assured of success, Ubisoft has announced five new games that will appear across the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. Here is the complete list:
- Dogz (Nintendo DS, November 2006) - developed by MTO again, this offers substantially more than the 18 breeds found in the GBA edition;
- Catz (Nintendo DS) - the same as Dogz, but with felines instead;
- Dogz Fashion (GBA, September 2006) - dress your canine friend up and enter them in fashion contests(!);
- Horsez (Nintendo DS, November 2006) - raise young foals, guiding them through life until they become strong mares and stallions;
- Hamsterz Life (Nintendo DS, November 2006) - build and customise homes for your hamsters to live in.
With Ubisoft also revealing seven Wii titles recently and confirming the rumour of Prince of Persia coming to the platform as well, the French company is 100% behind Nintendo it would seem.

Looks like Ubisoft are jumping on the bandwagon but i suppose it is a sensible thing do bit like SEGA with it mimicking Nintendo's brain training's in japan just proves that Nintendo truly are the best in the business
Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the cliché. They were the statement and the definition."

Sigh, more pet games. I think it's far too early to release yet more pet games, after nintendogs, dogs and Sims: pets people are so gonna get bored.

If it successful there is even more reason for Ubi to keep on supporting and making exclusives for the Wii

What's with all the z's?
It's not like anyone goes "Wow, they've spelt Dogs with a Z! That must mean the game is well cool. I wish they'd called Nintendogs Nintendogz then that would have been well better!"

The only thing that makes me shudder at these games is the letter 'z' placed so, well, irritatingly. It just seems like a bunch of 40 year old marketing directors decided that little kiddies like the letter 'z' (which I think is actually true to an extent; Bratz, etc) but it just makes the games seem so second rate, which they are.

About to board my plane. Merry Christmas everyone!

I have nintendogs for DS.. and it is an alright game in my opinion.. somewhat limiting.. but the idea is there.. and I believe for many players of the game it is a novel idea.. but the fire is quickly put out.. I still pick it up.. blow the dust off.. attempt to teach my pup to roll over.. say screw it and end up playing animal crossing. But I will say this, at least for Nintendogs.. they were reaching so desperatly for uses for the touch screen.. i do like the use of it in nintendogs.. as far as the Dogz, and Catz.. sloppy marketing on a less than mediocre title... novelty driven to sell to teens...

All I can say is that at least Ubisoft will be helping to drag over the younger audience that is still stuck on the GBA at the moment.
Other than that, all that comes to mind is the word 'meh'...
