There are two major RPGs ready to go head-to-head on 24th August in Japan - Final Fantasy III and Rune Factory: Harvest Moon. Now both have been reviewed, but who was the victor?

Here are the latest scores from Famitsu magazine, with each reviewers mark out of ten, plus a total figure at the end:

  • Dino King (DS, Taito): 6/6/7/7 - 26/40
  • Rune Factory (DS, Marvelous Interactive): 8/9/7/9 - 33/40
  • Final Fantasy III (DS, Square Enix): 9/8/9/8 - 34/40

  • For reference, the original Final Fantasy III on the NES received 35/40 when released and Square Enix's Children of Mana got a 36/40 score.

Decent scores, though I expected FFIII to do just a little bit better with all the hype surrounding it!

Maybe the hype killed the scores, too much expectations.

Perhaps so Grampasso, but still I was expecting around a 36-37.

Thats still good scores. Maybe the originality factor reduced the scores slightly?

Probably did but i doubt it will affect sales at all and Rune Factory also did brilliant but take everything Famistu review as gospel, after all true crime got 32

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich? They were the statement and the definition."

But who gives a crap about scores, the game's going to sell 900 million. Their juts critics and they criticize...which reminds of a very good quote I once heard

"Those who can do, do. Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, criticize."
