Nintendo Rumour | Sonic Does Smash Bros. Brawl?
Related Stories
When every miniscule morsel of information hits the Interweb on one of Nintendo's high profile franchises, Smash Bros., the world goes into speculation chaos. In a recent edition of magazine Tips & Tricks, there's a suggestion that Sonic the Hedgehog could be one of the upcoming fighters in the Wii instalment.
The official Nintendo boards are the source of the magazine's text, which reads:
"Nintendo hopes that Snake's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl will encourage other publishers to allow their characters to join the Smash Bros. line-up, and is already actively negotiating for the rights to include at least one other non-Nintendo character. Both Sakurai and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto have stated that Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog is the character that Smash Bros. fans have requested the most and... well, it's hard to type these words with our fingers crossed!"
Whilst this doesn't confirm any definitive inclusion of Sonic, it's certainly interesting to know that there's a strong chance of more third party characters making appearances, although this was to be expected with the inclusion of Snake into the mix. It's positive news to know that talks have been taken place to discuss possibilities for introducing other guest stars.
Could Sonic the Hedgehog be the next guest to make his debut in the previously Nintendo-only line-up?
Stay tuned for future updates on Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Yeah, Leon doesn't fit in at all. You can apply the same argument to Solid Snake really, but I think we're allowed one character along those lines, but a second character from a more mature non-Nintendo franchise, also crippled and unable to use guns, would be silly.

Yeah and Snake was very much a thing between hideo kojima and the guy in charge with Smash bros, unless he's alsos shinji mikamis buddie then i don't see it happening!
Leon isn't exactly a super famous charchter anyway, he dosn't represent the RE franchise in the same way snake represents MGS.

The only character higher on my list than Megaman, Zero and Dante is Sonic... He NEEDS to be in Smash Bros. His moves are just too perfect. The bounce attack from SA2 just SCREAMS B + Down, and the light dash thing would be perfect for a B + Up...Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

He doesn't need to be crippled, he also uses a lot of hand to hand combat in RE4

On one hand it is cool to be having other characters in the game; on the other hand, SSMB has always been a Nintendo thing...hopefully these characters wont mess up the game...

I think the inclusion of characters will be limited to franchises that have a longlasting bloodline in videogame history, and that have been on par, and incorporated with great game designers and great game history itself. I think Pac-Man, Sonic, and MegaMan are great examples of this. But Nintendo is not going to admit Gon Gon from monkey ball into the game just for the sake of doing so. Plus, theyre atteming to lengthen their already good relationships with publishers who have been around a while, who have the credit under their belt, and who deserve the recognition. Kind of like a flexing of their Big Daddy Powers tward the newbies, Sony & Microsoft. Nintendo knows what their doing. Plus, what an honor. Everybody knows, wheather they state publicly or not, that Nintendo is truly the greatest game developer and innovator in the world, and gameing itself, has been waiting a long time for such a symbian salute at what makes this idustry great. Hell, its overdue in my opinion. This is simply another stealth brick of innovation from Nintendo, in an attempt to bring gameing back to the gamers, and away from the stock market. And what a perfect platform to execute it on.......Bring it on Nintendo. Bring it on.-a s h- ; )

Here, here! *salutes*
The inclusion of Sonic would be awesome, IMO. He'd fit like a glove. Now if we could Tails and Knuckles I'd be even more stoked.
I personally think Snake is going to fit in just as well as Captain Falcon, Link and Ganondorf did. Leon would fit right in there too, but I agree he doesn't represent the RE series as a whole. So I'm not sure if that'll happen.
I'm secretly crossing my fingers for Megaman, Protoman, Bass, X, Zero or Axl. Here's hoping, lol.
I can't believe we're finally getting Wario (YES!). Took them long enough, though. I was hoping he was going to be in the first Smash Bros. and expected him to be in Smash Melee. Needless to say I was bummed. I just hope they give us his classic outfit as and alternate costume to his Warioware outfit.
I know I'm probably going to get some of you guys upset, but... I gotta have Waluigi in Smash Brawl!!! I love that guy.

As a huge, longtime fan of Pac-Man, I really hope they never include him as a playable character in any SSB game. Why is that?
The Pac-Man who is legend is a yellow circle with a little wedge taken out of it who has no eyes and goes "waka waka". The Pac-Man who appeared in a cartoon and a bunch of increasingly crappy platform games, on the other hand, is something to be embarrassed about, not celebrate in a videogame. Pac-Man's progression has been the exact opposite of Mario.... the fancier they make Mario, the better he does for the most part, but the further they get away from a yellow circle eating dots, the worse (and lower-selling) Pac-Man gets.
Hell, make him a "special move" in some other character's oeuvre, that'd be fine, but I don't want to see a Pac-Man with eyes, arms and feet ever again, much less in SSB.
Sonic, on the other hand.... that's brilliant. His special moves practically write themselves.

You're joking right?
Whatever Nintendo do, there'll be an army of nay-sayers furious about a certain inclusion or oversight. As long as they keep the quality high and don't just throw new skins on existing models, I think they should cram in as many as possible!
And if having Sonic in the game attracts more attention than anyone else, who gives a shit?! All attention is good for Nintendo and including a particularly desirable character makes great financial sense (see Link in Soul Calibur). To suggest that carefully selected/implemented third-party characters will compromise the 'integrity' of the game is absurd.
To be, or not to be Sonic... it's a no-brainer gentlemen

If they add Sonic I don't want Tails and Knuckles or any other fake Sonic character who's name is a colour that they made up in the last 5 years. Too many third party characters from one series will just make it overcrowded, and it's unlikely that anyone will ever use them anyway because they'll probably suck. I've got nothing against putting Sonic in, I just don't want the entire Sonic series in there with him.Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

They said that they didn't want to overcrowd with 3rd party characters. I honestly expect Snake, Sonic, Viewtiful Joe and some Namco character. There you have Sega, Konami, Capcom, Namco who all have had popular characters on a Nintendo platform.
Sonic would fit so well, as his proportions would be similar to Mario's and his attacks like Spin Dash could be easily implemented.
