Nintendo News | Rayman Throws A Wii Party

By Jorge Ba-oh 22.08.2006 15

Rayman's throwing a party with the crazy invader rabbits this year with the official French magazine reporting the limbless hero's next adventure will be slightly different to the original Rayman series with minigames ahoy.

NeoGAF" rel="external" class='fmlink'>http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4111533&postcount=35]NeoGAF member Jin_Ke translated the article, to reveal some interesting features of Raving Rabbits for Wii.

  • The game has two main modes, story mode and mini-game mode.
  • The game will have around seventy mini-games spread around different worlds.
  • These were confirmed previously as "tasks/trials, but now take the form as set mini-games.
  • There are various different types of Minigames, some like those from Wario Ware, others similar to Mario Party and more traditional genres.
  • The main story is sorted into 15 days with Rayman starting off in his cell at the start of each, and during these days players must attempt 5 mini games, four events and a boss encounter in the Rabbit Areana.
  • Rabbids will respond depending on the success rate of each of the events with objects for the cell, like disco music and costumes.
  • The mini-game mode allows players to replay the mini-games freely in multiplayer or solo.
  • The game changed from a traditional platformer to a series of mini-games once Ubisoft received Wii development kits. They had many ideas on what they could do with the Wii controlle, and felt it more appropriate to have a collection of mini-games.

Certainly an interesting and unique take on the Rayman franchise. Those seeking a traditional platformer maybe a little dissapointed.

    Stay tuned for updates.

I'm DEFINITELY disappointed! I HATE Mini-game-games! The only one I could stand was Wario Ware! WTF! Crap AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

    ~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

I don't mind mini-game games too much, Mario Party is great, so is Wario Ware. I'm not too sure about this though, I would prefer a long-ass platformer with some multiplayer thrown on.

However, could be good - not too sure about this till I get me mitts on this.

I personally like the sound of mini game modes adds variety to a bit of stale franchise something tells me that the 360 and PS3 version released 6months after the Wii version will not have these mini games

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

I hope Wii isn't inundated with what the DS nearly got - half done games (which I know Rayman isn't) with tacked on "minigames" where you "roll a hat", or whatever. Seriously, its just a cop-out.

Hopefully Ubi will do this right Smilie

"Mini-games". Sounds like an interesting addition so long as it doesn't get in the way of the main storyline (or simply to act as a filler to it)all in the name of using the wiimote in "revolutionary new ways"............Ummmm I'll have to see this one reviewed then play it myself so as to decide whether or not this will be on my list of Wii games to book come launch

    Reliance on mini-games is lazy.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

... What the fuck Ubisoft? I just lost a hell of a lot of interest in this game...

Must be why they left off the '4' in the title. I don't know what to think, Rayman's platformers were mostly good. Why not contuinue with the proper series?

    Seconded!

I want them to do another 2D one... I thought the original Rayman was WAY better than Rayman 2...

2 Wasn't too bad, really enojoyed it! Shame about this not being a platformer, but hopefully they'll make these lil mini games interesting and fun to play!

I really wanted a platformer not some mini games. oh well will have to wait and see if it is any good. It should have been a platformer, free roaming type. That has really put me off what was promising to be a top game.

by the sound of this, it sounds like the wii will most likely receive more minigame games, than actual full-lenght games. Smilie

Relying on minigames I agree is a big mistake. But using them as in conjunction with a main story mode I think is a good idea as it will give any game a more pick up and play aproach. The minigames are there if you only have a little time or want some muliplayers larfs and the story mode is there for a good bout of gaming.

Minigames alone is not always a good idea (although mario party and warioware are both expertly done and amazing fun so they are omitted). Smilie

    Woooooooo!!!

So it's not a platformer? It's like Warioware is it? Well there goes the need to buy it...
