Nintendo News | Zelda: Twilight Princess Rated T

Posted by By (jb) 51 Number of reads 53719

Only teens should play the next Zelda, according to Nintendo's decision to give the upcoming adventure a T rating. In the latest edition of Game Informer, Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen discusses the need for a higher rating compared to past titles.

Wii website, The Wiire have obtained a copy of the article, in which Nintendo of America's Head of Localization Bill Trinen states:

"With Twilight Princess, the depth of story and its connections to past games means not only does it have twice the text as Wind Waker, but it includes a fair number of legacy terms that originate in past games, so consistency is a big focus there.

We've also been given the opportunity to provide a lot of input on everything from play control to character design, so over time our role has grown from simply localizing the Zelda games to almost being a branch of the development team itself...you may see scenes and situations in the game that wouldn't have fit in a game like Wind Waker."

According to the ERSB who set ratings for video games, T is rated Teen, whereby there could be content that would be unsuitable for those aged below 13.

Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humour, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

Twilight Princess hits retail later this year, alongside the Wii's highly anticipated release.

Thanks to C3 reader Tin Can Man for the tip.

Stay tuned for updates.

Umm twice the amount of text is a good thing guys. People won'tbe saying the same things as much or posibly more explanation in the story or whatever.
About the T rating, well no one really cares about ratings untill they hit the 15+ or M mark.

Could just mean that link adds the word "Bollocks" to his phenomenally limited vocabulary of grunts and various other noises.

How about Link saying "Bugger" when he encounters a new boss?

I think that would have been funnier if you hadn't capitalised the first letter of the word bollocks. Oh, and if you missed out punctuation too. Ah well.

As for the T rating, Miyamoto said ages ago that it would get one. Smilie

Something went wrong with my internet there. I'll try and delete those annoying extra ones before a mod has to.

And where is my wink smilie!

Will we finally learn the final Zelda timeline? Could it be true!? I hope so, I've read so much speculation about it and it's given me headaches just thinking about the right order.

Is this Link the Link from OoT? Is TP between OoT/MM and WW? Will we see the Great Flood consume Hyrule and take OoT Link with it? Etc etc. In other words, I'm excited.

Nothing wrong with me here. Besides that I am older than 13, the darker tone and the theme given in the past trailers suggest such a rating.
Everyone wanted to have a grown up Link, which more or less meant a grown up Legend Of Zelda. So no discussion given here from my side.
And if parents think, they can give TP to their 11 year old kid anyway, well, that's their decision. That's what age-rating is all about. Every kid is special and I know many kids (including me) who had nightmares from semingly ordinary moments, being scary for me.
Remember the scene, where Links in the trailer saw the creatures in the other world or with his other view in the sewers (Maybe with the Eye of Truth?)? That's a 'T-moment' for me, guys...

Besides: I think it is great for a Zelda-game to be Teen. A bit of growing up and having an awful good atmosphere to it. We had a lot of wonderful past Zeldas, but I always got a creepy feeling in the misty dungeons with this spooky music, don't you think? Maybe that was a 'Teen-moment' too. Is doesn't need much to create creepy feelings to justify 'T'-rating.

/edit: It isn't always swearing, blood or titties that justify higher ratings.
(Okay, you guys remember the movie 'The Tomas Crown Affair' with Pierce Brosnan? That got a 'rated R' in the USA and a 'not under 6' here in Germany(!!!) - so much for ratings...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
Cubed3 Member

I'm particularly happy to hear that there will be references to other Zelda games and so much text. This should mean the game will be long and with a deep storyline=)

Cubed3 Member

If it's already been rated, that means that it's finished. I want my bloody GC version!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

A Zelda storyline with past references to previous Zelda's!
This sounds awesome. So I suppose to fully understand Twilight Princess it'd be a good idea to have played the others.

How is link cool? Yeah, the Zelda games are great but he's a man that wears a green dress and tights, and he has a fairy, c'mon. Oh, and somehow, in his seven years of sleep (or whatever it was), someone secretly changed his clothes for a different size and pierced his ear.

Who says he slept? He just went 7 years to the future, but without the knowledge of what happened in those 7 years. He is the embodiment of Link 7 years later, and in the 7 years of 'absence' he still lived, but you don't getto play as that, seeing the mind of Young Link skipped to the Adult Link body, so he has no memories of what happened.

And Link rules, period.Smilie
