Nintendo News | Zelda: Twilight Princess Rated T

Only teens should play the next Zelda, according to Nintendo's decision to give the upcoming adventure a T rating. In the latest edition of Game Informer, Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen discusses the need for a higher rating compared to past titles.

Wii website, The Wiire have obtained a copy of the article, in which Nintendo of America's Head of Localization Bill Trinen states:

"With Twilight Princess, the depth of story and its connections to past games means not only does it have twice the text as Wind Waker, but it includes a fair number of legacy terms that originate in past games, so consistency is a big focus there.

We've also been given the opportunity to provide a lot of input on everything from play control to character design, so over time our role has grown from simply localizing the Zelda games to almost being a branch of the development team itself...you may see scenes and situations in the game that wouldn't have fit in a game like Wind Waker."

According to the ERSB who set ratings for video games, T is rated Teen, whereby there could be content that would be unsuitable for those aged below 13.

Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humour, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

Twilight Princess hits retail later this year, alongside the Wii's highly anticipated release.

Thanks to C3 reader Tin Can Man for the tip.

    Stay tuned for updates.

I don't give a crap about the age ratings. I know I won't shoot anyone just because I've seen it in a game, and they don't make me agressive anyway(except for NFS:U, that was so buggy I had to call an exterminator to get rid of it!)(yes, that was lame, I know), so I just buy a game I want, simple as that.Smilie

I don't think game shops really care about the 12+ ratings most children under that age are usally with there parents to buy it.

Shit that would mean it is finished oh yeah been dying for some Zelda action starting playing Wind Waker again

It's a rating...who gives a crap? The only time it would matter is if Zelda got an M rating. Now there's controversy. But Nintendo will NEVER EVER do that to a Mario, Zelda or Metroid game because it will alienate all the children that love Nintendo and that's a lot of money lost.

As long as you get along with it and got everthing well, then it's okay. A rating is a guidance for parents which games should be given to their children and which not. And it's not (only) violence, that's causing a rating, it's creepy moments, scary images and *searches for words* other evil things. Let Sex aside, I find this sex-discussion fucking bullshit.
So IF you like RE4 (I would not give it to you, but I'm not your guardian), then Zelda: TP certainly is not bad for you... *lol*

    Hell yes.

Shinji_Zooka saidWho says he slept? He just went 7 years to the future, but without the knowledge of what happened in those 7 years. He is the embodiment of Link 7 years later, and in the 7 years of 'absence' he still lived, but you don't getto play as that, seeing the mind of Young Link skipped to the Adult Link body, so he has no memories of what happened.

No actually. To be pedantic Rauru kept him, unconscious, in the Temple of Time for those seven years.

I don't even care about the rating. Does anyone know what the teen rating was actually given for? I don't imagine that Zelda will have a great deal of swearing or titties. It's pretty obvious it will be for violence. But Adavnce Wars got a PG rating for medium level violence. Advance Wars?! The rating system is retarded.

Remember this is the American rating, which I can almost guarantee will be completely different to the rest of the world.

A rating is much more than just the content. It is guidance to parents so that they can understand if the game is suitable for their child.

A teen rating as well as material possible being unsuitable for under 13s ALSO could mean that under 13s may have difficulty controlling the game. I have seen games that have a had a higher rating because of the level of difficulty in them. Plus a teen rating isn't that serious.

who knows. I already said, that ther where scary moments. Think about the fight against the guy on the boar and the scene with the moaning spirits in the dungeon. I think violence is not that evil, since there is almost no blood in Zelda-games. But the more realistic the graphics are, the more realistic violence is and the higher the rating. At least in Germany and for PEGI. US-rating is a bit strange.

Yeah probably, I think they submit a content report to the ESRB or PEGI rather than actual game code. Hence why rockstar got done for lying.

Teen usualy translates to a 12+ Pegi rating in europe.

Sweet a deep storyline! Alussions to the past and other Hyrule eras, count me in! I love allusions, that's what made LOTR so good. It was great in WW, hopefully this will have even more.
Twice the dialogue of Wind Waker? Count me in, as long as it is good dialogue like in Paper Mario and not such endless babering like seen in Ocarina of Time.

Either way... The ratings in America mean nothing, and people only really bother with ratings over here if it needs to be a 15, which Twilight Princess won't be... I doubt many parents actually pay any attention to the games they're buying their kids, if they even buy them at all...

Oh and... Why is this in the portables forum? Smilie

    Sounds like an incredible RPG...

This isn't a first for a Zelda game... really, becuase ELPSA (or something) the old age raters in UK, game MM & OOT 11+ didn't it? That's basically the equivelant of PEGI's 12+...

I think it would be brilliant to be rated teen, I was hoping it would be 16+ or 12+, I was really hoping to see a more mature side of Zelda, & to get all those dumb chavs to stop saying "Lol Zelda is teh suXX0rz tis for teh baybeez"

Then I come along & say "SHUT UP PH00L!!!" Smilie

Do they say so? Well, they don't have any clue. I don't care about blood in Zelda, but it doesn't need any. OOT is my all time favourite game of all and I got pulled so deep into story, levels and atmosphere, that I would look up to these people while playing OOT, say 'Haaai!' and slash their 1337 puny bodies with a whirlattack. Maybe some rupees are springing from their wrecked remains, who knows...?

I would prefer to see blood in zelda, but I am not crying that we are not getting it. It's not a big deal really for me, so I don't mind. If putting green blood or whatever makes things easier, then by all means do it. Smilie

I'm sorta surprised it won't get a 16+ rating Smilie I think the mature feel could really suit Zelda... I think it always had, if Nintendo had stuck with the mature style of OOT & MM, then they could have gotten a lot more mature methinks.

    Oh well Smilie

    By the way.

If Sonic 2006 can get a 12+ PEGI rating, I'll be disgusted if this doesn't. That will prove once & for all that Sonic is more mature than Zelda!!!! Smilie

    Maybe.

I'm not particularly bothered about blood but it would be nice to see something come off an enemy when you shoot them with an arrow for example. It will give a better feeling of how hard the arrow hit them.

They won't put blood in Zelda, and if they do it will be minimal like OoT. Even though it wasn't all that noticable, there was green and blue blood in OoT when u struck some enemies. Zelda won't ever be graphic, TP will simply get a T for being more realistic ,therefore the same violence that was considered cartoonish in WW will be a bit more violent in TP simply because of the realistic graphics. I'll be very surprised to see blood or gore of any kind, I mean, Super Smash Bros. Melee got a T and that has no blood in it.
