Nintendo News | Sim City Coming to Japan This Winter

By Adam Riley 31.08.2006 14

We revealed yesterday that there was a rumour that Sim City DS was to be released in Japan this Winter courtesy of EA. Well, now we can confirm that Famitsu magazine has coverage of said title, stating that EA is working on it and that it is based on the PC edition of Sim City 3000.

It will not just be a simple port, though, as the company will be making good use of the DS's features. Therefore, it will include complete control via the stylus, as well as extras such as mini-games and an adviser character, that look rather like Sims creator Will Wright, to help you design your city.

We also have the first scan of the game from Famitsu here [ Click to Enlarge ]:

FANTASTIC

I got the theme tune playing in my head already.

One thing though, 3000 lacked some of the "fun" of 2000.
I hope they alter the DS version to have the best of both.
(eg, More Maxis Man, less Sewer Management....oh, and achlogys please).

Having some basic online functionality would be nice.
Just something simple, like you can place your city next to your friends, and you get a bit of cross-city influence. (purhapes some stats to show how well your doing relative to eachother too).

yeah that would be good If I can remember rightly Sim City 4 had Online and you could join a online region or something and there you could join roads and trade power and water.

Should be good seems like EA have indeed upped there DS games production

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

The pic reminds of the Sim city i used to play on my Atari ST.

Silence is the loudest noise we could possibly hear.

This looks like another good time killer. I look forward to seeing mroe about this. Famitsu is so cool. Why don't magazines in this country lay stuff out like that!

Woooooooo!!!

I really didn't like Sim City 2000 on the SNES and heard the GBA version was EXACTLY the same...hopefully this isn't as slow and clunky as those games. Great to see EA sticking to its promise of more games. All we need now are C&C and Theme Park/Hospital!

Woohoo! SimCity 3000!
I got hooked on the SNES version, I used to love the Mario's face level, nothing but acres of land, and an objective to reach a population of 500,000, or was it 5mil? Cant remember, anyway I nearly reached the target 'til some diliquent aliens decided to visit in contraption that can only be described as a flying saucer, and zapped my city's weakpoint several times causing 'maximum damage' to crablike effect. (sounds so cliche now) But the chaos was irreversible, and then I think Super MarioKart came out, so to cut a long story short, I'd like to get SimCitying again.

Awesome stuff, I loved the original SNES version and still have a copy floating about in fact!

This should be very enjoyable indeed, especially with the added control that'll be gleaned from touch screen input. Smilie

I loved the SNES version that was done by Nintendo. Hopefully EA will take heed and make this a little more light-hearted. I found 2000 and 3000 on the PC hard going...Sim City 4 was great, though.

I played the first version on my PC and I didnt like it at all. I didnt get what you were supposed to do on it. I'd much rather see the Sim City for the 64DD on the Wii's virtual console.

cool now i can play it on the go instead of on my pc.
