Nintendo Update | Super Paper Mario Heading to Wii

Intelligent Systems, the team behind countless classics such as Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Metroid Fusion and the Paper Mario RPGs, has been hard at work on a Paper Mario spin-off called Super Paper Mario, a platform-cum-RPG for the GameCube, which was supposed to launch in Japan toward the end of August. The game, however, suspiciously disappeared from release lists, along with the long gone new Kirby GC game, and people wondered what was going on.

Now, if Matt from IGN is to be believed, the game has been practically confirmed as coming to the Nintendo Wii instead. Here is what was said in the latest mailbag there:

Q: Hey Matt. It doesn't seem like Super Paper Mario for the GCN is coming out on October 9th (given that it hasn't been released in Japan yet, and everyone but Nintendo has the game listed as Q4 '06 or Q1 '07). I know you vaguely hinted at games for another console being moved onto Wii instead. So is there any chance Nintendo is going to move Super Paper Mario onto Wii? Or was that just a one-time deal with Zelda?

Matt C: Hmm. How should I write this? Have to be vague, you know? Let me just say that yes, Paper Mario will be headed to Wii and not GameCube. Now read between the lines, damn you! Wait. That was a terrible hint! All right, that's it for today. Time to beat Bozon.

It's the right decision of course...another aaa title for wii rather than a couple of sales for cube...they've got the biggest zelda ever to keep them occupied

Yah I saw this the other day, I was more surprised this being announced for the GC than it being pulled over to Wii.

The Wii is backward compatible to the Gamecube therefore it could always have been stated as a Wii game. Nintendo is still supporting the GameCube with Legend of Zelda TWP and third party developers are still developing games for the Cube. Therefore I'll wait for an official word from Nintendo before I decided to jump on the "Everything is going to the Wii" bandwagon.

Yeah read this a couple of days ago it was always inevitable and a wise move

It's something of a shame for a wonderful console, but it's the right thing to do.
They would have sold almost no copies because GCN is a dead console. And that would be a shame for a hopefully excellent game!

patjuan is right: Since Wii is backward-compatible, they can port PM to it with almost no difficulties. Just give them time to think of a Wii-control-scheme. Battlesystem can be ported very easily, for example the identify-spell of this young doctor-Koopa (What was her name again?)...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I wonder how would they put this to use using the Wii controller i think it will be interesting to say the least. Smilie cant wait this is another top notch game for Nintendo it might be a problem for 3rd party developers though lol. (As we all know Nintendo hasnt had much luck with 3rd party support with the GC hopefully that will change)

My Ways are far to advanced for you to comprehend!

If it's been changed then I can't see why they would have announced it as a Cube game in the first place.

But we'll see.

I just completed pokemon yellow! 151 pokemon seen and caught.
Surely that's worth a star?

To try and pretend the old war horse GC had a little life in it! But i agree with u fenno, it doesnt really make sense. Maybe they'll mention something about it Friday, tho i care more about the price/date of Wii.

I wonder if DK Bongo Blast will share the same fate and be the first Wii Bongo game?

Did seem a bit stupid showing it as a CUBE game but they did it probably becuase as Robbo said to show the CUBE had some life in it probably they are doing the same thing with the Pokemon spin-off GBA version.

As for DK Bongo Blast i don't see the point on releasing it on the GameCube and it wouldn't really suit playing the bongo's with a motion sensor remote, maybe they will change it to the once canned DKracing at the start of the CUBE's life, that would be great.

Diddy Kong Racing on DS and DK Racing on Wii perfectSmilie

I have to say that I'm pretty pleased about this. Paper Mario on the 'cube was one of my favourites and this would suit the Wii perfectly. I'm have full confidence intelligent systems will do a great jobs in terms of innovation etc.

Oh well.

It SHOULD still be good, but if they put in a quickie Wii control method it could end up a quick mess....

Meh, I'm sure Twilight Princess is fine, they know what they're doing.
