Nintendo News | Sega Virtual Console Games Confirmed

With recent rumours circulating the 'net, something more solid has emerged with some nifty sleuthing from Codename Revolution. Fancy a dose of classic Sega with your Wii? Read for the first selection of Genesis titles available on the Virtual Console.

The list is presumably official as it stems from the ERSB website, the organisation that provides content ratings to games, where a search for "Sega" and Wii produces the following list:

  • Altered Beast
  • Ecco The Dolphin
  • Columns
  • Golden Axe
  • Ristar
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Toe Jam & Earl

    Certainly some great classics from Sega! What other Mega Drive (Genesis) titles would you like to see on the Wii?

    Schweet stuff! Some great classics there!! I'm really really hoping they'll bring the entire classic Sonic series to the Wii, oh and Streets of Rage!

    A classic! Didn't play much of it, don't remember too much of it, but it's up there with the rest of the list - definitely.

    Ecco is a classic. Underwater exploration/puzzling with giant whales, time travel, lost sunken cities and odd double helix creatures. Be sure to search t'internet for cheats and codes though because it's an absolutely relentless game.

    Very little beats the fun of dolphin style jumping.

    Good initial list of titles. The next batch simply must include Streets of Rage (preferably 2), Sonic 2 and Gunstar Heroes.

    Yeah, Ecco was arse-wrenchingly difficult (or at least it was when I was 8 or 9). It's good to see that fair variety at least coming to the Virtual Console, and I assume this means they're close to launch. Golden Axe, Toejam & Earl and Ristar for the win! I think Altered Beast was decent, too...

    Their next wave will probably include Sonic 2 and hopefully things like Streets of Rage, Afterburner, Alien Soldier, Vectorman and the almighty COMIX ZONE.

    Golden Axe is classic! Ne of the little midget people try to steal my magic bottles while i sleep round the camp fire....get a running headbutt from the dwarf!

    Be nice to see Streets of rage and the sequals in time. What about games like Mickeys castle of illusion? Think that'll make the VC?

    S'pose it's a start, and it's only Sega MD games, I expect there'll be some 3rd party MD games as well.

    Hey, Altered Beast had some very classical Music - extremely wonderful. Hear them until today!
    This Lineup is very promising. I own almost all of these games for Megadrive (Genesis). Stunning!

    Only the first Sonic game? How crap... I suppose Ristar and Ecco the Dolhpin might get purchase, but to be honest most of them have aged too much for me to bother playing...

    T&E was such a great game, along with Ristar and Sonic. Let's hope for T&E 2 aswell!

    Mega Drive 1 and 2 are exactly the same hardware in a different case. It's Ty The Tasmanian Tiger and I believe he's only existed from Playstation onwards. You mean Taz the Tasmanian Devil?

    Was pretty good I guess, but back then people didn't really do half assed attempts at liscenced games did they? Smilie

    I wouldn't mined getting the original Sonic because ive never played it. I would really like to play Ecco because I got it for the Dreamcast and it is amazing.

    Ecco on MegaDrive is pretty good, the levels are massivly explorable, nice graphics, calm music, but it's bloody hard!!

    I've never played the DC Ecco game! Smilie Maybe I should get it! Smilie

    when i played ecco all those years ago i realy didnt like it as i found the difficulty a tad to high. i may give it another chance though. it seems like a good game.

    and i realy hope kid chameleaon is in the next batch on virtual games from sega. its the one game from the mega drive i want to download more that any other game.
