Quick News: Sega have released the official press release for the upcoming Sonic port, Sonic the hedgehog Genesis for Gameboy Advance. Whilst nothing new has been mentioned, the game has been dated as November 14th in North America. The game will have all the content from the original, plus an Anniversary mode with the spin-dash from Sonic 2 onwards and save feature.

Really looking forward to this game, but one thing that really worries me is the music. It just isn't going to sound as good as the original.

Lol, true I guess, but the GBA's speakers do pack quite a decent sound, DS's too. Sonic Genesis/Mega Drive series was incredible in every way possible!

At last, the first Sonic on GBA. Why not. May be better than the new 3D ones.
I think the music is not the problem, als DS is strong in sound too. Question is: Are they going for a new soundtrack or are they using the old one? I think the latter...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Of course its better then the 3D ones, allthough not better then Rush, or CD, or "& Kunckles" imo.

However, Im not getting this if its a straight a port as is suggested.

Cant we have a "Mario DX" style package?
Same core game, but shitloads of extras to keep us entertained?

Hidden things about the levels, and race-modes (multiplayer!) dosnt take that much more development time to add.

I agree, kind of wish they had done something more with this.

Perhaps made it into a DS game thus allowing for far increased amounts of extra features.

Then I would have bought it no question, as it stands there are too many brand new games I want. Smilie

Not really interested, unless its really really cheap. I've played this game so many times before.

The worry about the music is actually a good point. On Sega Smash Pack on GBA (a compilation of 3 MegaDrive games; Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe and Sonic Spinball), the music is terrible, with horrible clashing sounds and only 2 tunes from each game, usually a title track and 1 level music repeating over and over again. Such a shame because all 3 games had great soundtracks on their original versions. Anyway, this leads me to suspect that it might not be that easy to port soundtracks over from MegaDrive to GBA...

The Saturn "Sonic Jam" version of the game also had a save function and the spin dash so they're hardly new, and I've always said that the original Sonic works best without the save feature (its designed that way, so you can learn to rush through the early levels when you get good).

Is anyone actually going to invest in these with the Wii and all the great DS coming out

I will be getting it, & I think that at a $19.99 price, it's alright, does anyone know what that translates to in

Looks to me like an instant cash-in... I don't see why they're taking so long to release it. It doesn't seem like they've added anything. Sonic Jam on the Saturn had the dash attack in it

(Oh that's another thing, it's dash attack, not spin-dash. Spin-dash is when you run and press down Smilie)

Sonic went downhill when it went into 3d...

wild fire... i mean the secret gold rings (hahaha) is hopefully good though.

I think that its a pretty poor attempt for Sega to gain somemoney out of the 'dying' GBA. From the screenshots there appears to be nothing new added to the game. Any knowing Sega of late there probably won't be much added to it at all.

They should have made this on the DS and have flly upgraded it. Why should we buy this when we can likely buy the original on the Wii's Virtual console?

They better tweak the music to sound as good as the orignial or else i'll throw a fit. Everything else aside, I'm gladthat it coming to the GBA with save features and the spin dash. This is going to be sweet. Smilie

Sure it is Megadan. A spin-dash is a dash while spinning, therefore the down + ABC is the spin-dash. A dash attack is a way of attacking enemies while running. That's running and then pressing down.

Next you are going to tell me the Super Peelout from the crappy Sonic CD is actually the Super Sonic Spin Attack.

No-one's making you buy it. The fact that this is already an easy (and cheap) to come by game doesn't matter, this is the first handheld version - it doesn't pretend to be what its not, its not as if Sega are tricking people into thinking its a different game, if people don't want it they won't buy it, but I'm sure there is a market for this game.

Just a little reminder that this is Sonic's 15th year. So a little selling out is expected. Their real project is Sonic Next, with Secret Rings and Rivals also taking their time. To help with the celebrations a port of the first title, a game that's no doubt easy and cheap to make, and will no doubt be popular.

As for the game I'm a little worried about the music. Apparantly you can UNLOCK the ORIGINAL Soundtrack. A big WTF? there, shouldn't the ORIGINAL soundtrack be the ONLY soundtrack? (Source www.sega.com I think. though they have been known to be completely wrong in the past).

Any news on a UK release. Kinda dissappointed something like this didn't come out in June. Maybe they planned it for that but ended up being more trouble than it's worth.

I think that sounds right... I don't think they planned it early enough, to busy asking Sony when their Birthday was as they were planning to celebrate Sony's unbirthday Smilie

For no particular reason...

Also, I think the deal with the music, is that the music may be a bit remixed for the GBA version, similar to the Sonic & Knuckles Collection on PC, that's what I imagine...

I'll get it most likely, to be honest i hardly play my ds anymore.

But if it's sonic, i'm tempted to buy it, not just cos it's sonic but the classic sonic, thats gotta be good, although i would think it would make it worth buying more if it had aload of extra's jam pakced into it.
