Nintendo DS Media | Itadaki Street DS (Mario + Dragon Quest)

By Adam Riley 19.10.2006 10

When Square Enix announced Itadaki Street for the Nintendo, most people just went 'Huh?'. Then it was revealed both Dragon Quest characters and those from the Mario world would be in it and people started to take more interest.

So far Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Jenny from DQ and the Blue Slime have been revealed in what is quite similar to videogame Monopoly.

It currently only has a 2007 release date for Japan, but will no doubt be popular with the otaku over there, considering its massive success on the PS2 (and with its PSP port). Be sure to check out the new images and art below.

Looks pretty darn sweet!

They so should do a Mario Party for the DS, it would be awesome to do a local wireless multiplayer session.

Yeah when you first new of the DS unique interface you instantly thought of how good MP could work on it.

Although there is a version for the Wii Smilie

Very good financial decision from SE and Nintendo.
Mario is the biggest name in games
DQ biggest RPG in Japan
Mario Party formula =

MILLION + SALES

Don't forget this is an ONLINE game as well! Smilie

Square is so lucky lately. They've been able to use Nintendo's characters for like three games now.

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Right, first of all, Smookin - what made you think it was a Kingdom Hearts type of game? Did you not read the story?

...in what is quite similar to videogame Monopoly...

And ZeroSimon, the PS2 game was FF & DQ in Itadaki Street, as was the PSP port. This is just Mario + DQ. Itadaki Street is an old Enix franchise and didn't even have DQ characters in it until recently. It's always been by Yuji Horii and Armour Project, though - the creator and developer of DQ.

Nintendo characters are better

Exactly...the draw for the PS2/PSP version was FF characters from the PSone FF games. For Nintendo fans, it makes much more sense to have Mario alongside DQ.

For those interested, I've pieced together all I could find on Itadaki Street in the preview here: http://www.cubed3.com/news/6220/ Smilie
