Nintendo GameCube News | Zelda: Twilight Princess Dated in Europe

By James Temperton 26.10.2006 116

ONM, the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine, have today revealed that the GameCube version of The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess will hit shelves across Europe on December 15th, one week after its Wii counterpart. Of course this version will also work on the Wii, so if you are after Zelda with traditional controls just like God intended, then you only have to wait a week and then you can play GameCube Zelda on your Wii. Isn't that lovely?

Nintendo's reasoning for the week-long gap is to meet demand for both the GameCube and the Wii versions. An alternative view might be to say that it is a great way for them to make money, but that would just be us being sceptical...

There are FMV's? News to me.

Well, back when the game was first revealed, wasn't there a small FMV section showing Zelda in a cloak looking through a gate? I assume that'll be in the game somewhere.

It's good to see that you guys have now refrained from name calling and swearing at each other over the net. I was beginning to think I entered a kiddes chatroom or something.

From what you've all been posting one thing has been made very clear, you all love Nintendo here. Some of you love their games/consoles but have a very objective(and most understandable) viewpoint as to certain business decisions that affect us their customers.

There are others out there that are near infatuated with everything Nintendo and lap up anything they say even if a small part of you things that they're wrong and to you guys I have to say take off your Nintendo blinders and face the facts. Nintendo aren't right with everything they do.
I can go on and on but i'll stick to the point. E3 2004 they showcased Twiglight Princess as a Gamecube game. E3 2005, they told us that it was coming out in Christmas 2005 only to announce they were delaying it and adding Wii functionality. E3 2006 they showcased the Wii version and then recently told us that the GC orignal is coming out after ported Wii version. Now that sucks and those of you ticked off about that fact have a right to be because we've been aticipating this game for over two years on Cube and now it's being released after it's ported counterpart? Although personally I'm getting both versions of the game for those looking to get only the GC version I say Nintendo aren't being fair.

Oh and say what you like but one of the strongest reasons why Nintendo decided to release the Wii version of Twilight Princess as a launch game was for the mere fact that the Wii launch while having quantity lacks quality and a lot of you have said that. Come on beisdes Twiligh Princess and maybe Redsteel what other killer app. Is out there that you really want to pick up?

There's a lot of gimmicks in Nintendo's launch bag and quite Frankly if they hadn't ported TP to Wii and made it the main focus for Wii's launch as against the GC version, there a substantial possibility that Wii's launch could flunk out.

Wii's launch is a mixed bag unlike the laucn of Gamecube where I was able to pick up at least 8 of the 12 games available.

When someone makes a valid point children don't start showing your infantile maturity by getting pent-up and aggressive to the point that you have to childishly call names just beacuse they differ in opinion from you. This isn't school so if half of you are still in Primary then keep your insults to the playground.

All three console companies have come up with so much bullshit over the past few years that you can't say that either of them are right, Nintendo expecially. My advice to those of you that lap up the industry's gossip like a spong in support of you favourite console ( hence the word fanboy) try to be a little more objective.

I thought that was in game graphics.

errrmmmmm, not quite.

If it was FMV the window/gate thing wouldnt be 2d, the textures on the wall and zelda herself would look ten times better etc etc.

And theyve changed the twilight realm so i doubt that part (in terms of graphics) is representative anymore.

OLU1701, I reckon Nintendo could have put out a stronger release, if they wanted and it was a good move.

Retro Studios commented ages ago that they were surprised at E3 2004 when Nintendo revealed MP:Hunters and they weren't developing it. So they've been either working on Corruption, or another project, for the last two and a half years. With that in mind if Nintendo wanted that as a launch game they would have got it.

Nintendo themselves must have a few other games sitting at Gold just waiting for the right time to release them, such as Mario Galaxy, Excite Truck and Wario Ware.

It's more a matter of strategy. Release Wii with Zelda, have Wii Sports as the viral non-gamers game and let third parties do the rest. That's enough to launch a system, and naturally Zelda is the best game for it with the strength of the brand, time and money invested in it.

They can then launch Wario, Mario, Metroid, Excite Truck when they won't flood the market.

I wasn't going to get the Gamecube version anyway but at least it's actually coming out on the Gamecube. A week delay is pretty good really.

Bring on Wii!

You've got to be joking:

Have you been playing ps1 games for the last 6 years?

And Zelda will never have FMV, I garentee it.

i still think they should have kept the Revolution as the name not Wii

What's that got to do with Zelda?

Just thought, since some of us have to wait longer for 'Twilight Princess than others (depending on what region you're in, and what console you're getting it for), I'd like to request that no-one posts any spoilers of any sort, even after the game comes out. Perhaps a specialized spoiler-thread would be a good idea. In any-case, I want to as completely in the dark about this game as possible (like I was with OoT). If anyone ruins this for me in any way, I won't be best pleased.

0/\0 Definately. I'm hyped about this game, and I really don't want any spoilers other than what I've seen in vids.

And I agree with you about Nintendo being bastards about not releasing it on GC, but frankly, I lost hope of it being out at the end of '05 when the said 'slight delay.'

But still, I do think that the launch line up is good, and while there are some negative comments, the five year old inside me who swung sticks around making *vwooom* noises is going "SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" inside my head at the thought of Red Steel. One word; NINJAS.Smilie

It was built for Gamecube controls. Simple. The way it was intended to be.

But then they realized it would be better for the Wii!

o/\o, I agree, I'm doing the exact same thing. I've managed to cope with holding off of the Zelda spoilers, but I'm not doing so well with Pok

Oni,

Nintendo brought gaming to the masses and i am pretty sure Nintendo brought the first 3d game fully accessible with an analogue and GameCentral aren't a site. This is a smilie

Well using that logic then Sony didn't steal anything.

I'm not using the internet at all in between purchasing TP and completing it. Just incase... Some people are pretty pssed about already knowing about the wolf thing. I think that would have been best kept secret. It was a pretty big 'WTF!?!?!' moment during the trailer, but it would have been a million times better in the actual game...

Agreed.

Oni-Ninja: Have you played the fucking games? WOuld you not think it would be better to judge when u can actually play it and actually move link's white ass!?

I think that the reason Nintendo didn't incorporate both controls into the wii version is for 2 reasons.

1. They saw an opportunity to make a little bit of extra cash which they could maybe... i don't know.....reinvest into the company for better research into new technology and better gaming experiences!?
2.Let's be honest, how many new release games are you gonna buy this christmas for your GC? If they were both incorporated, the GC woud have fallen faster than the "numa numa" guy doing a Belly-Fucking-flop.

I say we get a little poll going in this thread, maybe that'll settle this.

Yar, I would have loved that to be kept secret, I guess it's a big part of the game, & you see it fairly close to the start, it's also on the box, but would have been a very nice surprise.

The less I know about this game the better.

Anyway, after reading ONM's final Preview in their latest issue, I am even more confused about which version I want. What if the Wii controls turn out increible? What if the graphics on the Wii version with all the great lighting effects are actually noticeable? I wouldn't have to wait another week either...

But then I think about Link being right handed again & my head just says "Fuck off, gimme the GC version."

Help Smilie

Also, when the time arises, will magazines/websites to seperate reviews for both versions? Somehow I really doubt it, which really isn't fair, to be honest, I'm gonna pick up next month's ONM to see they gave TP a 99%, but WHICH VERSION IS BETTER? That's something they'll either:

#1 Never tell us
#2 Not want to tell us, 'cos it's ONM's job to get us to buy the Wii innit? Smilie

On the subject of ONM... I have noticed SO MANY mistakes in EVERY single issue, are they really that dumb to get found out by a 15 year old fanboy? Smilie I might just stop buying it if these stupid mistakes persist, it's an offence to my knowledge. Smilie

Easy solution:

Get the GC version. Complete it. Sell it. Buy Wii version.

That's what I'm doing ;3
