Nintendo News | DVD Wii Confirmed for Japan

Nintendo has confirmed the recent reports of a special edition Wii with DVD playback being available exclusively to Japan in 2007. Last week we reported an rumour that Nintendo will be launching a DVD capable Wii in Japan in 2007.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz the company have confirmed the claims with an "enhanced" version of the console exclusively hitting the homeland next year: "There are currently plans to release a version of Wii in Japan featuring DVD playback."

For Westerners considering waiting for the 2nd edition Wii to hit retail, "there are currently no plans to bring this model to Europe or the US."

That whole price issue still pisses the fucking hell out of my bitchy mind...Fucking retailers...

Considering the amount of complaints that the price already gets, I think Nintendo made a wise move by not including DVD playback for most systems. Hell, I have two DVD players underneath my bedroom television.

I like the idea, but they should of just included one with the original console, if they release it later people may reframe from purchasing it, i'd probably purchase one if it had it enabled on release, nintendo did state some time ago they would make it optional to install the dvd player system or not, where did those plans go to?

Stores would come up with the price AFTER Nintendo had confirmed their dealer price and the Wii's specification.
