People were stunned when Square Enix announced that it would be bringing a version of Final Fantasy XII to the DS. Now more details on Revenant Wings have been unveiled in an interview between Japanese magazine Dengeki and the Director and Scenario writer of Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, Motomu Toriyama and the co-Producer, Eisuke Yokoyama.
The Nintendo DS game has quickly become one of the most wanted games for the system and is already reportedly nearing the halfway point in development. Whereas many originally believed the game would be set before the PlayStation 2 game, it is actually a short time after. The game takes place on the floating continent of Puruvama, as well as the ground below it, with pirate Vaan in search of treasure. Yokoyama states that whilst it would be impossible to fit the entire world of Ivalice from the PS2 game, gamers will be able to visit the majority of the main locations.
There will be several episodes included during play that build up to a vast, epic FF tale and comes complete with a new combat system that uses the stylus control and includes a simplified version of Gambits - a little bit of familiarity so veteran FFXII gamers are not too confused by the change. Yokoyama also goes on to talk about how there will be many more characters added to the group in comparison to the original FFXII, as well as Fran and Balthier.
Summoning wil play a big part of the proceedings, with the summon creatures being vital to battle encounters, but being used in a different way to previous Final Fantasy games. Toriyama plans to make good use of the DS features, with events, battles and game systems all using both screens to full effect. However, at the moment it looks like Wi-Fi connectivity is being left out until something can be sorted out with the terrible issue of slowdown due to lag.
And that is where it concluded, leaving us thirsty for more.
