Nintendo Wii News | Full UK Wii Accessories Range

Whilst we previously thought that you might have to hook up your Wii to your TV just by using the Composite AV TV/monitor cables that come bundled with the console, it has now emerged that you will be able to buy an RGB Scart cable for the console.

ONM have shown off pictures of loads of European/UK packaging for the Nintendo Wii's accessories. Pictured below you can see: the RGB Scart cable, the classic controller, a component cable for progressive scan and LCD TVs, the nunchuk and the main Wii controller.

The main Wii controller and the nunchuk are priced at

Why choose that half-white colour for the boxes? It looks slighlty feigned 360 white, actually. Come on Nintendo, we want pure white. Like...like...th'iPod (cue Apple similarities discussion)

can some1 explain.....does the RGB cable actually improve the quality of the picture? and is it worth getting it since i cant buy composite since i havent got HD

Cubed3 Member

Component Cable. Not AV Composite Cable.
The Composite Cable is the stupid cable inside the box.

Cubed3 Member

The RGB is the best of 480i. For all Standard Definition TV, this is your best choice.
For ALL HDTV, you HAVE TO buy a Component Cable if you wanna not see Zelda look horrible. This Cable is the only that can transmit the signal of 480p or progressive scan.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Smilie Get an ebay cheap one instead! As long as scart are fully wired you will see no difference with quality what-so-ever.

Cleetus, that means at launch. Nintendo hadn't made it clear what they would make available for the Euro launch, so this is good news that it'll be supporting all tech from day one...well, almost all tech!

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Firsthand: You can buy cheap cables. 'As long as it is fully wired, you have no downfall'. That's it, guys: You don'T kno and the cheaper the cable is, the more they make it seems, that it's fully wired and even RGB compatible. Remember: Not every SCART-cable you buy for your console (no matter which one) is RGB compatible. It is printed on the packaging if it is!
So don't buy the cheapest, buy one that you are certain of. That's where Nintendo comes in: I can rely on these things! I am not rich, but I rather pay a bit more and have no trouble than running around hustling(?) for cheapest cables and have trouble returning it or jacks not working, picture being black/white or such.

second: This cable named 'RGB-cable' is best for analogue-TVs, as i said very much earlier in this forum. Wii-composite cable - you recognize it because it has 3 cinch-plugs in white, red and yellow and maybe an adaptor for SCART - is crap. Colors are being washed away, color separations will fail (resulting in dirty looking colors almost as old C64-computer-graphics). It is superior to S-VHS-cables, too.

I think the boxes are white - I hope they are. Maybe the pearly-teeth-white byckground of Cubed

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I need something clarified,

What able will the Wii come with.

I thought it would come with a scart cable as standard like the Gamecube did.

As they are selling scart separately for ripoff prices, then which cable actually comes with the Wii. Is it going to be like a scart cable but without the Scart connector i.e. Red and white audios and Yellow video.

I didn't think the GameCube came with a scart cable? It just came with the White, Yellow and Red cable (composite AV???) and an adaptor so you could plug it into the TV. But anyway, I don't think it is coming with a scart cable in the box. Unfortunately. I only have a scart input on my TV.

The Wii comes with the same cables as the GC: a composite cable (red white and yellow plugs). In Europe you also get a SCART adapter, but it simply allows you to plug it into a SCART socket. It's still a composite signal. The best signal SCART carries is called RGB, for which you need a proper SCART cable with the right pins connected, plugged into the primary SCART socket on your TV.

I've written an AV guide to the Wii for C3 which should be up soon. No mater how many times people explain it on the forums, nobody pays any attention.

Hey, thanks! I have the same problem. And when I do explain the things I know I start writing whole essays. Maybe elves like to talk a lot. *lol*

The SCART 'thing' supplied with the Wii and GameCube is simply an adapter to let you plug your composite leads into your TV SCART plug. it does not give anywhere near the same quality of picture as the RGB SCART which is, as we have seen, sold seperately.

I personally think they should have included either the RGB SCART or Component lead as standard. RGB SCART is far more widely available on TV's than component, and the composite lead supplied with the Wii is going to make the image quality look absolutely horrible on anything much bigger than a 14" TV!

Can I assume that the RGB cable I used with the N64 and Gamecube will penetrate nicely into Wii's backside?

Can I also assume that Grumbler is seething with every fresh question mark this thread throws up?

Less posty, more gamey.

The packaging is awesome, IMO.... YESS RGB SCART!

Well Nintendo, you've sold at least one of them Smilie

How much d'you reckon the RGB will be from day one?

EDIT: NVM, didn't see it before Smilie

It increases picture quality, & it's great if you have a Cathode Ray tube TV with no 60Hz mode.

60Hz + RGB = Best visual I can get with MY TV Smilie

So if you have a NORMAL TV, then get an RGB Smilie

Hooray! The Wii runs on mains electricity! Thanks Nintendo, now I won't need to buy my own generator!

Seriously, this is nothing to get excited about, it's the most predictable, inevitable, essential thing. Nintendo are pretty dim, but not doing RGB from day 1 would be breaking new levels of stupidity and complacensey.

Even the SNES had an official RGB cable.
