Japanese Sales | Nintendo Buoyant, Sony Hits New Low

Below are the official software and hardware sales from Japan, courtesy of Media Create and translated, for a change, by myself! This week sees no PS3 games make the Top 10, Nintendo's Magic Taizen (similar to 42 All-Time Classics, but with magic / card tricks) enter at a respectable No.6 and Castlevania only slip in at No.14 despite decent sales. On the hardware side, we see PS3 sales half and the PSP reach a new all-time low!

Software Sales - This Week | Total Sales

1.) Sengoku Musou 2 Empires (PS2, Koei) - 97,170 | NEW
2.) Common Knowledge Training (NDS, Nintendo) - 78,722 | 529,828
3.) Pok

Judging from the changes in sales figure from pre-PS3, the launch of Sony's new console has only hurt the sales of it's other brands. And what poor software sales!

Still I suppose we can't judge properly until the following two things happen: 1) the Wii is released, 2) both consoles have a steady supply with no production related (as opposed to demand related ala DS) shortages.

PS3 must be terribly hard to supply.

First day sales are out as well, and as follows:

Blah Blah (see story above now)

At least I think that's about right...Anyone that knows Japanese can double-check for me here: http://ameblo.jp/sinobi/ (that's why it's not posted in the main story, as it's unverified at the moment Smilie)

EDIT: The story's been updated with figures that are much more accurate Smilie So disregard the one's that were in this post!

lol i love the fact that ds lite is outselling the ps3 by a factor of 3 to 1 (i know the ps3 has terrible shortages but it still amuses me Smilie) and the best selling ps3 game is only at no. 16!

I'm willing to bet 100% of the PS3s on offer have been sold...
maybe the real test comes a few weeks down the track.

It was thought to be 30,000 and with only 82,000 out of 100,000 the previous week...So with an estimated 130,000 out there, having sold 123,738 is not bad at all.

It's more the lack of software sales that shows how lacklustre the launch is, plus the fact that the PSP has been hit hard!

We will just have to see if the Holidays and the lack of parents able to find a PS3 drives up PSP sales at all in the future. If not, the device is in a serious nose dive...while DS Lite sales are on the up. It will be interesting to see if the Wii has an effect on the Lite.

49.) Mah-jong (PS3, Konami)

Who would want to spend so much money on a PS3 for its awesome graphics then play mahjong on it???

...

And how can 40 have sales number lower than 42?
40.) Fast Reading Training (NDS, Milestone) - 3,000 | 10,000 < 41% of Stock Sold >
41.) Big Brain Academy (NDS, Nintendo)
42.) Tingle RPG (NDS, Nintendo) - 3,100 | 180,000 < 89% of Stock Sold >

That magic game looks really wierd...the DS does magic tricks on you..but its a CPU it can cheat!!!

That's what cracks me up about PSP fans. They love the uber power of the system yet the best game for it is Lumines, and homebrew of SNES games.Smilie

I love the fact that DS lite sold 48,000 more than every other console put together.

Who the hell would buy a console and not a game? So many people did that in America the retailers said.

People selling them on ebay!

Go DS, cracking sart for Jump Stars and Love and Berry, i ma confident that both will hit the 1m mark.

As for Kirby, Common Sense Training and PESDS all really good sales.

18.) Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training (NDS, Nintendo) around 10k, that is what i call longevity.

As for the PS3 sales, that was kinda expected. It's just nice to see Ninty pwning the sales charts, just like the good old days.
