Nintendo News | Official Wii UK Launch Plans Clarified

By Adam Riley 29.11.2006 12

Nintendo UK has today announced it will officially partner with HMV when it launches its new console, Wii, at midnight on 7th/8th December 2006. The action kicks off from 11pm at HMV, 150 Oxford Street, London with the chance for everyone to come down and play launch game Wii Sports against top sporting celebrities including Ian Wright, Jodie Kidd, Pat Cash and Ricky Hatton.

Wii is already shaping up to be the most hotly anticipated console launch ever seen in the UK with Amazon.co.uk recently revealing that pre-orders for Wii on its site 'sold out' within seven minutes of them being made available, making it the fastest-selling pre-order it has ever listed. In addition, retailers including Comet, Dixons and GAME have already announced that Wii is expected to be one of their top selling items this Christmas and demand is already expected to exceed supply.

Those getting there early enough in the queue will be lucky enough to get their hands on their very own Wii consoles, games and goodie bags just in time for Christmas. Stocks are limited so get there early to avoid disappointment.

In addition, the first 200 people purchasing the critically acclaimed launch title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii will receive a very special strictly limited edition The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess tin to store the game.

Wii launches across Europe on 8th December 2006 at the estimated retail price of

Strict tin version of Zelda eh? Like the strict bonus disc with Wind Waker...hmmm

Still i want the special tin!!!

Me too... . .! I sooo WANT that can for bragging rights and all that.

Ihave one gripe about the Twilight Princess adverts though. The graphics looks low spec in fact they looks so low spec one might think that it was made using PSone dev kits. Nintendo should have strictly advised then that they used an ED TV with component cables or a crt with rgb. Either way gripes aside this and Red Steel are getting picked up for launch.

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

That first image of Jodie Kidd surely can't be real! Smilie

Not nice... not nice at all. Smilie

Erm... yeh.

Sweet, we should hopefully be down at the launch event, so if you recognise one of the C3 folk be sure to say hello Smilie

Ricky Hatton? That's him? I suppose I understand why they are getting him there, though. For WS Boxing, no?

Ach...hmm, so what's the first 200 to buy Zelda thing? Is it 200 at each store? Or is it the first 200 to register it with Ninty? Or the first 200 at the London HMV or what?
Not that I have enough money to get it at launch. Just curious.

200 at the (HMV) store I belive.

Ah, that's cool. I thought it'd be the most likely. 200 at every store wouldn't be all that limited.
