Japanese Sales | Nintendo Keeps PS3 Out of Top 20!

By Adam Riley 30.11.2006 28

So far the PlayStation 3 has failed to make much of an impact over in Japan, with software sales being ridiculously low despite the hardware shortages. But can Nintendo really blast it away completely? It would certainly seem so from taking a quick glance at the list below:

Software - This Week | Total Sales

1.) Love and Berry DS Collection (NDS, Sega) - 421,227 | NEW
2.) Jump Ultimate Stars (NDS, Nintendo) - 150,303 | NEW
3.) J-League Winning Eleven 10 (PS2, Konami) - 103,365 | NEW
4.) Common Knowledge Training (NDS, Nintendo) - 81,813 | 611,642
5.) Pok

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Where's Wii?

No chance of that.

very true - but people are still buying the PSP, and dont forget the 'older gamer' appeal

The ds will always be for me though

No there is no spoon

I'd say the only "older" appeal the PSP has over the DSlite is the shallow teenagers who think they are mature by playing GTA.

That is true i suppose - but a lot of people i know (uncles, cousins...) buy it for the movies and music too. Then i get told the ds does nothing but play games!

Eh, kinda the point of a *games* console!

No there is no spoon

I wonder who the six new XBOX owners are Smilie

Very good reading for Nintendo that is, very good indeed.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Wii next week!!!And I didn't manage to get a preorder

Wow DOA is always huge in japan...a 360 game in the top 10!!!

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

Mr T, the new Xbox owners are Microsoft employees, natch. I'm sure more GBC were sold than the Xbox. In fact, I know, because one of my Japanese friends bought 11 at a cheap shop. Of course, they wouldn't record that data, though, eh?

*builds on boring point* Smilie

I doubt the Wii could even stop the DS.

Great sart for Love & Berry Collection, i thought Jump Stars would have got of to a better start but still very solid figures and Common Sense is still going very strong.

Wii should definately beat the DS in it's first week since, unlike sony, nintendo will definately have enough Wiis in stock to beat it.

Looks like Nintendo get to boast about a (most likely) successful Wii launch AND 6 million DS' sold in 2006 in Japan within the next couple of weeks...

Of course it will but i mean i don't think it will be as rampant as the DS, although i expect to shit all over the PS3 and the 360

Two Xbox 360 games beat Sony to the top 20 I didn't realise there were that many 360 owners in Japan.

The trees of course

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Lol at the expected innuendo there from Megadan Smilie

I hope the Wii does exceedingly well, and not just mediocrely (if that is a word) in Japan. I mean, Nintendo has been going through a rough patch, ya know.

Yes momentum but of of a very low amount, we come used to the DS picking up 20k plus sales and not even mentioning it, but when the 360 picks up 3k in sales everybody's talking about momentum.

Brain training 2 fell out of the top 10, is that the first time since it was released?

Animal Crossing seems to have rose a few places, aybe due to the advertising beginning fort he aime movie

Xbox!! 0!!!!!!! SmilieSmilie

Brain Training 2 has been in and out of the top ten a lot recently due to a lot of new releases.

Love and Berry had an initial shipment of around 800,000 to last until the New Year as Sega won't be making anymore of the card units that come with it until early 2007 - so there goes its chance of a million by the end of the year. But still, nice tactics from Sega (for a change).

Jump Super Stars started at something like 225,000 units (from 250,000 pre-orders), so JUS is disappointing in comparison, although I suspect it may have longer legs.

The last Dead or Alive apparently hit with something like 90,000 units, so again this is much lower, although I do agree about the 360 gaining momentum. It actually seems that the release of the PS3 has spurred MS's machine on! Plus hype for Blue Dragon is quite strong over there right now...

Out of the top 28, that is. For round numbers sake, they may as well have said top 25.

may i announce that anyone (and i mean anyone) who preorders at game or Woolsworth in Islington will die tommorow. And i mean it.

Silence is the loudest noise we could possibly hear.

Oh my word! How short are the stocks in Japan for PS3? Are they trying to create artificial demand? Quite like the 360 last year?
