  • Original Story - Nintendo's next home console, the Wii, has now officially launched over in Japan to massive furore. People were busy lining up early on 1st December to make sure they had their placed secured for the launch on 2nd, as with 'only' 400,000 units available for the first week, there are bound to be severe shortages right from the start.

As ever, the large Japanese websites have been busy covering the queues and taking many photos of the crazy scenes over in Japan, with most of the coverage coming from Game Watch. Detailed reports and images can be seen at the following links:

  • Game Watch Report #1
  • Game Watch Report #2
  • Game Watch Report #3
  • Also, according to IT Wire, all 400,000 units were sold out within just a few short hours! This will not be confirmed, though, until either Nintendo releases a press statement, or Media Create updates its sales figures.

    Smilie those lucky bastards...

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

True when you see the Japanese standing in long lines for a new DS colour, they have got to be mental.

    ...Please Love Me...

Great sales for Wii games looks like Zelda didn't quite have the attachment rate as it did in Canada and America.

FF also had some suprisingly great sales,

Zelda almost lost to Wii sports!?!?!??!?!?

Wario, Wii sports and Wii play with the "gameplay over graphics" thing are all selling huge!

Yeah and FF5 had only just come out...

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

I am happy to believe that Wii has won the console war in Japan.

Remember these are only first day sales...So everything will be higher than the sales stated above. Also, Nintendo is reportedly re-stocking Wii at lightning pace Smilie

First? Tales of Destiny has done very well then!

According to Famistu numbers, which are slightly different from the unconfirmed numbers, especially since Wii Sports and Wii Play both sold more than Zelda.

    Wii Sports;176,880
    Wii Play;171,888
    Zelda;145,068
    Wario ware;63,086
