Nintendo News | EA Acquires Headgate for Wii Development

Electronic Arts is the largest Third Party company in the world and it is often said its support can make or break a new console. Therefore, when it acquires a company to focus purely on Nintendo's Wii it is sure to be a good sign.

EA has previously worked with Utah-based Headgate Studios on a external contract basis, but after six years it has now snapped Headgate up and is directing its focus onto Nintendo's Wii console.

For reference, Headgate previously worked on the Tiger Woods franchise, plus the PC editions of Madden and The Godfather. Vance Cook, founder and CEO of Headgate, is set to continue his role as Executive Producer, reporting to Nick Earl, Vice President & General Manager of EA Redwood Shores/Maxis.

Vance Cook went on record to state the following:

"Having worked with EA for the past six years, we know their teams share our work ethic, passion for creative excellence and commitment to quality. By joining EA, we are making official what we all already feel - that we are part of the EA family. We couldn't be happier."

Paul Lee, president of EA Studios had this to say on the deal:

"The team at Headgate is a great fit with EA's creative team. Their creative spirit and technical leadership have separated them from the pack. Salt Lake City is a terrific place to make games - it's a dynamic city with a vibrant creative community and a great quality of life. We are thrilled to have them join EA."

Great news, i hope more sport specific EA games come to the Wii after the great reviews Madden is getting.

Hopefully it'll be more than that, though unfortunately I doubt it

We'll obviously just get watered down versions of everything else! That'll be great!

EDIT: Didn't read Grumbles' post. Same point made, though Smilie
