Silicon Knights founder, Denis Dyack, has been busy updating his blog lately. Now, the reason for this being of interest to us is due to him bringing up the GameCube classic 'Eternal Darkness'. Here is a direct quote:
"I am most often asked if we have sequels in mind for Eternal Darkness. The answer is absolutely yes. Although this may not be obvious to those outside of Silicon Knights, anyone inside the guild understands that there is really no other answer. When creating an original game we start by conceptualising an entire universe. Once the universe is conceptualized we then tell a story within that world."After creating numerous worlds over the years, developing a trilogy is just a natural progression in our game making process. Eternal Darkness and Too Human all fall under the same umbrella of universes that we created. We have many stories to tell within these worlds so this time around we felt it was time to tell more than just one."
So it has once more been reconfirmed that Eternal Darkness will likely be turned into an eventual trilogy, just like Too Human. But considering how Eternal Darkness was plagued with delays, pushing it from the N64 to GameCube and Too Human originated on the PSone (now XBOX 360!), it could be quite a while before we see anything.
And the other matter is that the Canadian developer no longer has Second Party status with Nintendo, so is not obliged to bring any future games related to ED onto a Nintendo platform. Thankfully, though, Dyack has previously stated that he does not rule out working with Nintendo in the future, following the collaboration between Silicon Knights, Nintendo and Konami worked out so well for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
