Nintendo News | Clarification on Wii Strap Issue

By Adam Riley 15.12.2006 15

There has been a lot of negative news floating around the Internet this morning, most of which is either mis-translated or just plain fiction. Therefore, Cubed3 has the definitive answer on the issue, straight from Nintendo, stating that the massive recall that is being banded about is not true at all.

"There will be no product recall. There is no problem with the wrist strapas long as the Wii Remote is used sensibly and properly in accordance with the guidelines provided by Nintendo. However, we will be providing replacement wrist straps free of charge to consumers who request them. Consumers who break their wrist straps and consumers who are worried about their wrist strap they should contact their nearest Nintendo Service Center."

And for those wondering why some wrist-straps are indeed being replaced, here is another tidbit for you to mull over, again courtesy of Nintendo:

"Even though the original straps are perfectly adequate for normal play, we can

Europe isn't even important

i read somewhere that once the EU stuff's set up you request the replacement and Nintendo send you a devilery sticker so you dont have to pay for postage!

I just watched BBC news and they mentioned the wrist strap. Apparently 300 straps have been replaced (or they are going to be) in the UK.

Europe isn't even important

Thank you... I love you too, man.

It's more or less the case, that Europe does not have a jurisdiction, that thinks for people. Here people have to look out for their coffe they place between their thights when driving. If it spills and burns you, you are responsible.
If someone wiggles around like crazy with Wiimotes and it bounces off aunt Petunia's china-vase and breaks it, then they are self responsible. But it's a bit tricky, since Nintendo wraps us in a bit of false hopes. So they are very concerned and replace them (free of charge!), change the new ones to be thicker and so you can be rest more assured.
If think that's pretty plain neat of Nintendo to us plain old unimportant Europeans, don't you think?

Again, it's the same why people blame Nintendo for aching arms when playing Wii Sports. Heck, that's the purpose. That's muscle you built there, people! It's good for you. You move yourself - and even without buying rubbish from QVC or Shopping-Channel-For-Dummies! And it does not cost 200 EUR alone, you get good games for free. And if you call right now, we even include this thicker wrist strap...
call 555-1234!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

man i need to get a Wii... but im waiting till they come in black before i get one.

When all else fails... call the guild nacho.

I knew it was all a bunch of lies... I reckon it is anyway... I honestly can't believe some many people have broken their straps, they're not THAT weak, they probably chew them or cut them with scissors on purpose...

Besides, who would throw their Wiimote so hard it comes out of their hands anyway? I don't know of any games that would make me do that. Wiisports maybe? But would they let go of a Tennis Racket in the real world? No, I think not, it's not THAT easy.

Methinks they're trying to do it on purpose XD

Newsround - now. Thanks to those cunts they're rambling about the Wii - "it's dangerous" - urgh. Not Nintendo's fault that some people are utterly utterly retarded.

Saw this on the Channel 4 news, they handled it perfectly.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Wonderfully amusing. ANYONE that manages to let go of the Wii remote or smash things with it needs their head looking at and or to wear gloves wit a very good grip. I play tennis with flicks of my wrist, and with baseball you don't have to totally twat the thing to hit it well. Some people are just very stupid. Funny then that there is a recall in America Smilie

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

I actually recieved an email from head office at work saying they are preparing for Nintendo to recall a number of units.

I doubt Nintendo would do a full blown product recall, but I'm not in the industry, so I shan't naively speculate.

It was on Channel4 news today... that nintey will replace 3 million starps for free! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

You should just go here:

It is like a who's who of retards.

Very amusing.

I have used the wiimote and I have found that you have to be a bit of a muppet to actually have ended up lobbing it at the telly. Put the wrist strap on properly.

Woooooooo!!!

I'm really disappointed with the BBC coverage of the story. On Breakfast they reported that there was to be a recall of 3million straps - surely they should have looked at where that information came from? A product recall has to be issued by either the company in question (Nintendo, obviously, in this case) or Trading Standards, and yet neither of these had done any such thing.

Now if it had been ITN, I would have positively expected this sort of shoddy journalism.

Bad Publicity is good Publicity

I saw an article in the Daily Mirror on Friday about this. once again touting a product recall on 3.5 million Nintendo Wii's!
