Grumbler this is a regular news article, Raz isn't going "OMG Smilie Wii-mote outsold HD-DVD!!", he's just rounding up the figures. Think of it more as Swansea City 1, Reading 0 than Manchester City 3, Chelsea 0.

We provide sales figures for those interested, nothing more. The title just briefly says whats in the report.

Alright, no worries guys - I'm all for taking criticism onboard (be it positive or not). Sadly work's been getting busier as of late, so when I get stuff like Press Releases or sales figures I'm more hard-pressed to 'do' stuff with them.

Anyway, this was a news-tip from good ol' Ashcroft Smilie Couldn't ignore it, could I?! :alien:

    And back-scratching? Don't know what you mean...hehe!

Good ol Ashcroft, not many people round here would say that.

As for the negativity thing that has always been around C3, you can't say anything negative about MS and anything good about Nintendo

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the cliché. They were the statement and the definition."

I can understand that a criticism exists, but the magnitude of it here surprised me. What are you guys, xbox360 supporters? Then I can understand, because you took the headline personally and felt defensive.

This site is a Nintendo site, and so headlines are bound to be in that frame of reference. There is no need to flak the writer, just skip over it if you don't like it. It's one thing to point out an error (which there is none), something else entirely to narrowly focus on a title and slag off the article. It doesn't achieve anything other than creating a foul mood.

All that said, I think in some ways I can understand the balance of reaction. Generally there seems to be more MS supporters than Sony supporters among Nintendo crowd. If it were the Blue-Ray addon by Sony instead of HD-DVD by MS, I reckon many fans here would have put a spin on the idea that Sony is doing badly.

I'm not slagging the writer at all, I just think the whole comparison of the two is a bit retarded and not what I expect from Cubed3 which is usually atleast a semi-professional site.

yeah, sorry... my criticism could have been more constructive. It was a great tip-off from mr Ashcroft, I loved the article otherwise.. And most times I like all your comments in the title, raz!

kellerman in what way is Raz's title retarded. The Wii-mote outsold the HD-DVD for the Xbox360, thats what the figures say. The title just says the facts, you guys are making it out to be a big thing. In the same light though any news piece which says "PS3/Wii/Wbox360 sells out" was retarded, we knew they were going to sell out so why bother putting it in the title.

I just read it as a funny way of putting the states cause it would be so obvious the wii mote sold more, the fact that the report just listed the states and never mentioned any fanboy rant of how awsome the wiimote is compared to the HDDVD player kinda prooves that.. although i guess if your an xbox fanboy you might read it the wrong way and cause you offense Smilie

Surely something like "Wiimote best selling accessory" would be better than "Wiimote outsells incomparable accessory".

I'm just a bit peeved at the recent things like:

-The eternal darkness thing that was many months old, this was pointed out but there was no apology, nothing.

-Tempo's terrifying video which stated that the Wii launch went absolutely perfectly without a single flaw, ignoring the numerous supply cock-ups to several massive retailers and justifying this by saying that Nintendo's PR didn't supply any footage of this.

-It generally annoys me the way press releases with weighted PR rubbish are used as news peices instead of being quoted in news pieces.

I think somebody might have accidentally tripped over the credability lever...

That's one view. I accept and respect that. Personally, I think it's ridiculous how some of you are digging heels in on such a trivial factor in a much bigger context. If I didn't know better I would have said you are paranoid. So, let that be another view. Every content specific media is likely to annoy you if you are so paranoid. My suggestion is just to step over it. Turning it into what looks like an animal-rights campaign does not help, it just makes things unpleasant for the rest of us who are perfectly happily reading the article and enjoying this place.

I suppose one problem with this sort of conflict is that critiques are usually louder and angrier than those who don't have problems with it. Yet, when you turn the bucket you turn it for all of us who don't want it turned. So, thank you, but no thank you.

Why is this such a big deal? Come on, get yourselves over it already. I don't see any problem in the news report or the title. Sure it wasn't the perfect title, but at least the actual news report showed some interesting figures.

Personally, I think it is good news that the Wiimote is overselling the HD-DVD. Because let's imagine for a sec

#1 That HD-DVD was Sony add on for PS2
#2 Wiimote was a GC controller.

What do YOU think would sell more at a time like this? I know it's pretty stupid considering GC has been dead for more than a year now, but Nintendo is really picking up speed whether it's about some expensive add on or not.

It's just a news piece about sales figures and the "controversial" title makes you want to read what is in the news piece. That's it.

Christ, this is the kind of reaction you would see from Nintendo fanboys if the title was "Total PS2 Sales > Wii Total Sales". It wouldn't be a proper or fair comparison, but it would be true.

You really confuse me sometimes Oni, I honestly couldn't tell whether that was sarcasm or not.

Actually, from now on, if it sounds stupid, then it's sarcasm, 'k? Smilie

Then he is also very narrowly focussing on one aspect of a big picture to declare judgement. That's what I mean when I say the reaction is over the top. It's like you have a sore spot where you don't want to be touched, and you flip flop like a fish on land when someone tries to touch it.

I can't help but feel that some of you critics here are Wii360 supporters, otherwise you would not have reacted in such a reflexive manner. Criticizing an article like this is so easy from your comfort-zone when a defensive intuition kicks in inside you. All sense of perspective is then lost amidst a torrent of uncontrollable emotions. Many 'anti' replies in this thread seem to be the manifestations of this phenomenon.
