Nintendo Rumour | Datel to Break Wii Region Lock-Out?

By Adam Riley 18.12.2006 13

Quick News - There is talk floating around the Internet that Datel is hard at work on providing gamers with a new version of the Freeloader disc for Nintendo's Wii to allow gamers to play import titles.

Stick with Cubed3 whilst we endeavour to get confirmation one way or the other...

great news thats something i will definaltey invest in, get my hands on some nice American or Japanese Wii games

Disk swaping sucks! It would be nice if they could hack it into installing a free loader channel but i'm doubtful still it is better than nothin.

Disk swaping sucks!

Normally I would agree with you, but the Wii's disc loading slot is just so damn cool that this is almost good news in itself! Smilie

Why can't I see that? Smilie

Cool! Hopefully they'll include a Cube freeloader within the disc as well Smilie

I'd wait for XenoWii.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

A freeloader channel would be awesome. Disc swapping is very annoying and ultimately put me off Animal Crossing. Smilie

How is disc swapping really annoying? It takes the whole of 30 seconds.

This would be good, but I suspect that Nintendo will only have to release an update that stops it from working. I'm reluctant to buy anything 3rd party for my Wii until I know it'll work in the long run. Still I'm not so annoyed with the situation in Europe as I was in the early Gamecube days, its better than things were 5 years ago and I expect it'll be better still in 5 years time.

If an identical thing can't be run from an SD card very soon then I'll eat my hat

I don't have one, but that's besides the point >_>

My Freeloader for Gamecube does not work with Wii. Do you guys have the same problem? Wii does not recognise the Freeloader-disk...
Hope the include a Gamecube-Freeloader with this new one too as fenno already said...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Apparently the GC Freeloader / Action Replay isn't recognised the first time you put it in, but IS when the system is then rebooted...Anyone that can, give it a whirl and let us know Smilie

When did you submit it? Maybe it got deleted by accident when we cleared out some of the junk that ends up in there. Sorry! Smilie

I think the deal with the freeloader is that it will boot Jap on US, and US on Jap, but not PAL on US or Jap, nor US or Jap on PAL......if you see what I mean. And compatability is even worse than it is on the GC, i.e. more games simply cannot be booted at all with it even if they do on the GC.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.
