Nintendo News | January Virtual Wii: Kid Icarus, Ice Climber, Fire Emblem and more...

By Jorge Ba-oh 26.12.2006 23

Nintendo have announced a selection of titles hitting Japan's Virtual console service in January 2007. Prepare for a revival of classic Nintendo franchises from the adorable Ice Climber to our favourite Hylian in his first side scrolling adventure, Karting antics with Mario and friends to thievery with the Bonanza Bros.

Thanks to neoGAF's Creamsugar for the translation.

NES

  • Kid Icarus (Nintendo)
  • Ice Climber (Nintendo)
  • Ikki (Sunsoft)
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (Nintendo)

    SNES

  • Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu (Nintendo)

    N64

  • Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo)

    Genesis

  • Bonanza Bros (Sega)
  • Gain Ground (Sega)

    TurboGrafx-16

Certainly a strong update for Nintendo in Japan, hopefully a similar line-up will hit the West in the New Year (where localisation is avaliable).

Stick with c3 for future Wii updates.

gah! I really want MK64 on wii...

I wonder how half-assed NoE's output will be.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

    RType II!!!!

    *orgasm*

    *orgasm again*

I'm dying for some of the old Fire Emblems. If they get translated and put on the US Virtual Console I am that much more in Wii camp.

that is a really strong line up....and i want kid icarus...i've never played that before...and he's coming out on smash bros!!

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

    what about the prices?

VC prices are standardised by their original console, they'd also be in Yen so I wouldn't worry.

Well I won't be getting a Wii till late next year so by then NoE should have R-Type II ready.

    They won't be... The bastards ;_;

I'm betting we'll get 4 of those, possibly 5 if they give us R-Type II...

They had better give us Fire Emblem, if not I'll just have to keep downloading translated roms. It's up to you Nintendo.

Donkey Kong Country 2 bring that out!

The question is; will PAL continue to get shafted with the horrid old PAL conversions from ten+ years ago, and denied the great games we originally missed?

Because if they did not, Japan would bite Nintendo's head off.

Trust me, from my Japanese friends, when they found out that US was getting Wii first they were very very mad. Like WWII mad. Smilie

If anything Fire Emblem is one of the games we're least likely to get because the first 5 have never been translated (By Nintendo anyway...)

I doubt we'll get the rest anyway though, because we're European scum

    Doubled.

Oh I wouldn't worry about that:
for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific.
I'm guessing George Bush didn't take History lessons

VC prices are standardised by their original console, they'd also be in Yen so I wouldn't worry.

I was always a bit confused by this. If you buy the console in Japan (or import it) does that mean you still pay in Yen and get Japanese games as it's registered as a Japanese machine?

    So did I! Smilie

Why do I get this feeling that VC will NEVER get off the ground in UK? We'll never see any N64 games, & the only console with games you'll want to buy is MegaDrive! Smilie

Back in the day, maybe, but not in 2006/7, surely?

Why not? You seem to like Jesus but he's been dead for over 2000 years
