Nintendo Wii News | Mario, Metroid & Smash Bros. in 2007 for Europe

By Adam Riley 04.01.2007 61

Nintendo has today issued a statement to cover some of its big games of 2007 in a little more detail than the previous list that was released. Both Nintendo DS and Wii owners are definitely in for a treat, starting as soon as a week from now. Here are some snippets from the Press Release:

January

WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Wii, 12th January) - What's wacky and will have you twisting, turning, waving and even hula-hooping with your Wii Remote? Wario's back with more than 200 crazy microgames made specifically for Wii, for up to 12 players to enjoy.

Children of Mana (Nintendo DS, 12th January) - Role-playing game masters Square-Enix return to their roots in the latest instalment of the classic Mana series of action-RPGs. Go it alone or join with up to three friends wirelessly.

Star Fox Command (Nintendo DS, 26th January) - The Star Fox series blasts onto Nintendo DS! Part action shooter, part turn-based strategy game, Star Fox Command puts an armada of ships under your touch screen control.

Actionloop (Nintendo DS, 26th January) - Puzzle games don't come any faster and more furious than this! Use the stylus to flick the magnetic marbles into like-coloured groups, testing your brainpower and reactions in equal measure.

February

Magical Starsign (Nintendo DS, 9th February) - An out-of-this world, astrological adventure! Journey across the galaxy to find missing members of a magic academy and their teacher, using spells that grow more powerful when stars are in alignment.

Excite Truck (Wii, 16th February) - Grip the Wii Remote like a steering wheel and boost, swerve and jump your way across wild terrain that morphs beneath your wheels. As the name implies, Excite Truck is a wild ride.

Kororinpa (Wii, 23rd February) - In this action/puzzle game, you'll need a steady hand and a cool head to roll the ball through the 3D maze to the goal by tilting the Wii Remote.

Wing Island (Wii, 23rd February) - Take to the skies and engage in a range of diverse missions, from fire-fighting to wildlife photography, controlling your plane's flight with simple movements of the Wii Remote.

1st Quarter (i.e. by the end of March)

Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Wii) - The hit Nintendo DS surgical simulator makes its Wii debut, with hands-on controls using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii) - Made exclusively for Wii, Sonic's new outing is a super-fast action game that unleashes the power of the Wii Remote.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (Nintendo DS) - Play as two characters at once, skilled in combat and magic, in this brand new action-adventure for DS.

Mario Slam Basketball (Nintendo DS) - With gorgeous graphics and intense, comical action, Mario's hoop-shooting debut is set to be a Spring scorcher.

Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis (Nintendo DS) - Guide a team of Mini Mario toys through obstacle filled levels or even make your own levels and upload them to the world with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Nintendo then goes on to talk about some of the other highlights we will be expecting in 2007, such as highly anticipated Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, plus Super Smash Bros. Brawl (that includes new fighters like Wario and Solid Snake). Elsewhere, Big Brain Academy, Battalion Wars II and Mario Strikers Charged are mentioned for Wii, whilst The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is not forgotten for the Nintendo DS.

So it certainly does look like a bumper year, and that is even just going from this bare list. There are many more Third Party titles due out and no doubt plenty of surprises on the way.

So when is Metroid coming out?

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

2007 is going rock.

Is that all? Pretty crappy. That's only until March though, I suppose. Plenty of time for Nintendo to rescue the year.

MP3 has started to get my interest again. Since details, clips, screenshots etc stopped being released, I wonder if it's undergone some sort of major graphics overhaul or storyline overhaul such as RE4 was?

Serious? There are only 3 games mentioned i wouldn't want to buy.

What are SONT & MS line-up's like for comparative reasons

A nice solid list of games if you ask me, certainly a fair few games for the quarter.

Wii games attracting my attention are truama centre and Sonic(if it gets good reviews).
All the DS games there I want I'll end up importing infact I already have starfox and Starsighn. I'll probably get Castlvania once i finish FF3.

It's alright, though the big titles will be horribly spread throughout the year. I'm expecting Smash Bros in the Summer, Mario Galaxy in Winter & Metroid in the Autumn... probably.

It's a shame that Wii is so dry until March. Excite Truck & Warioware look great, but that's 1 game per month. Smilie

They're bringing wing island to europe?

It bombed in japan so bad...it barely reached a 1,000....(800 in first week...)

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

Metroid doesn't have a confirmed date, just 'towards the end of the year' last I heard. I reckon it might be one of their Christmas 2007 games, disappointing considering it was supposed to be for launch, but if it's worth the wait...

There are at least four games in that list that I want, so it works quite well with my 'buy a Wii game a month' strategy.

January - Wario Ware
February - Excite Truck
March - Sonic/Trauma Centre

Where's Elebits, though? It'd better get a release here. I've heard March, but I don't understand why it's not been mentioned.

What's wrong with you? Seriously, quit the Nintendo bashing to look cool. That's a fine line up considering how new the Wii is. And as the title says, 3 KILLER titles coming during the year too. As much as I love the 360, it had a crappy launch window too.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves and Kororinpa are the only Wii ones I want, and they're not must-have

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Nearly every Wii game there was meant to be at launch. It's dissapointing that the launch selection was so rubbish, but at least we have a confirmed date for them now Smilie

Q1 sucks big time. Roll on Q2.

Urm, yeah, that one. My memory hasn't been itself lately.

OK fine, the XBOX360 had a crap 1st year too.

I'll be getting StarFox, I liked Assault which is "apparantly" awful. Which means I'll probably like Command.

Also, the online Dogfights sound good.

I thought, that that is low too, but you guys are right:

1) x360, PS2 launch was 'crap' too (not to mention PS3-launch).
2) there were good Wii games already: Wii Sports, Zelda (half a Wii game no?), Red Steel (Yes, it is good!), ...
3) as you said: there are some good launch-windows-games coming.
Me too, like Mason, will get Trauma Center, Excite Truck, maybe Sonic (the latest for x360 is crap people say!) and maybe Wario Ware (I never was much into the ware-games.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Starfox command looks crap because it's not on rails anymore...That's why Lylat wars was so good. The on rails stuff was just the best, and when you did do a bit of free roaming it was an awesome dogfight against Starwolf. Starfox Command doesn't look the same to me.

Starfox command is shockingly mediocre as far as I'm concerned. I played it for about 10 minutes (you know, to get a fully fledged opinion of the game :readSmilie and didn't think anything of it at all. People'll still buy it though. It's online Smilie

Also,

Grumbler said:The Dreamcast has 2 almost as appealing games coming out in the same time frame this year, and a third slightly iffy one. The Dreamcast

How long have these games been in development for? Who are they published by? Are they Japan only?

( Edited on 04.01.2007 19:17 by dojo99 )

I thought Battalion Wars 2 was supposed to be coming around February or March... And I thought Metroid was around the same time. Don't tell me they've been delayed ;-;

This reminds me... Give me back Assault damnit >.>
