Nintendo News | Kojima Praises Wii (Again)

By Adam Riley 05.01.2007 15

Konami's Hideo Kojima is watched closely by gamers around the world in the hope that one day he will confirm a Metal Gear Solid title for Nintendo's Wii. And whilst that confirmation has yet to come, he has now gone on record to praise the system once more.

In a new interview that has been published, Kojima-san stated that he definitely wants to do something on Wii, and is fully aware of how he talks about this a lot. However, until he finished 'this gian called Metal Gear Solid 4' his hands are tied.

Positive news indeed...Elsewhere, he talked about how he believed Blu-Ray will quickly become insufficient for High Definition visuals with 5.1 sound included and is actually not personally interested in HD at all right now as he prefers MGS games to have a 'dirty' look to add to the atmosphere.

This is pathetic. There will never be a proper MGS game for the Wii, for a few reasons. Most notably, MGS4 is the last in the proper series. Kojima didn't want to do MGS3 but was pressured into it, certainly doesn't want to do MGS4, but was pressured into it. This is very likely to be the last in the saga. No doubt Konami will carry on with some spin-offs, but they aren't proper MGS games. Only MGS games with Kojima at the helm are proper MGS games.

He tires of the series, and is putting an end to it (Halo 3-style). He wants to move on to new things. Why on earth would he make a game that he doesn't want to make for a console that couldn't handle MGS4, so it'd have to be a whole new game that he doesn't want to make, and not just a port? The Wii will probably get some crazy Kojima puzzle game, or something like that GBA one he did (Boktai?). Not a proper MGS game, ever. This is probably why he likes the Wii, it presents plenty of opportunities for the gaming genius to do something new. MGS will be the fucking last thing on his mind.

The only console other than the PS3 which stands a chance of getting a proper MGS game would be the 360, which strongly persisting rumours state is getting a port of MGS4. Add PC to that list, I suppose. Not Wii. The closest thing the Wii will get to a MGS game is a spin-off, which isn't a real MGS game. Probably wouldn't even be canon.

Star'd.

In all seriousness a metal gear on the wii would ruin the series. There would end up being some half arsed attempt to encorporate the Wiimote and motion sensative controls into the game and knowing our luck, it would go horribly wrong and suck.

As any of you have seen the trailers of MGS4 know there is a VERY strong indication that he going to kill snake off. His dramatically worsining health, his age...the fact he contemplates suicide. As Oni says he tires of the series, although it is a huge money earner, hes gone as far a he can with it, he knows it and we know it.

H e didnt want to push the series past MGS2, hence the fact he ended up doing a prequal to the series...although a good idea in theory AND in practise for that matter, he struggled to think of ideas to advance the series.

if Kojima DOES produce an MGS game on the wii it will end up being something like Metal Gear Acid, a card/puzzle game, not a proper mgs game.

Also, the fact he has had nothing to do with Metal Gear Acid 1/2, Substance and Substinance or Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (PSP) shwos that he does not want to produce any more games after this one has been completed...in all its glory Smilie

I personally hope he does try something different on the Wii

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clichť. They were the statement and the definition."

I hope the Wii will be home of some new IPs.

Question; seeing as Clover Studios was shut down, does that mean the guys working there have no job, or that they've simply been relocated to different departments?

So far konami's efforts is just 1 game,elbeits...

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

I've never liked the whole Stealth Game Genre It Kinda Bores me I hope he does make more games like Boktai as that was pure genius. Although how much I do Hate MGS I must say he has done a very good job With it and hope he moves onto another big winner

I'd never expect to see a(n?) MGS game on Wii. Maybe a stock market game, or something equally random, but not MGS. I agree, Oni. Why would Kojima-san, after all of his "last MGS" statements, make another? And again, I agree, Konami probably would make a few PSP spin offs (Smilie News just in, they are! Smilie), but I think after the PS3 version, which is rightly where it belongs, and maybe 360/PC ports, he'll just say no, unless it is because of something like a massive sum of money he's been offered to carry on the series.

In fact, that wouldn't surprise me; Konami bribing him to do more MGSes. Smilie

" Blu-Ray will quickly become insufficient for High Definition visuals with 5.1 sound included a"

umm..with proper compression a 2 hour film can fit on a NORMAL dvd with 5.1 sound.

Divx, Xvid, or any MP4 based compression works wonders.

"He tires of the series, and is putting an end to it (Halo 3-style)."

ha!
Like Halo3 will be the last.
I fully expect Halo3, 3.5, 4 and 5 as well as at least 2 startergy spin offs, 6 mobile phone games, a DS game (yes, at some stage Im sure one wil come, even if its rubbish)

Big franchises just dont die, even if the creators want them too.

Awesome!

Very dull!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I love the MGS games, but if Kojima doesnt want to make another MGS game then if he is forced into making another one then its very likely that the game will suck badly and the whole series will go downhill. Giving Kojima a chance to make a brand new game on Wii is a brilliant idea, the mind boggles at what he could make.

Yeah, but they were/are still pretty good strategy games.

From various quotes I got the impression that it's more Konami pushing out MGS than Kojima. I wouldn't be surprised if future MGS games were made by other employees under instruction by the head honchos at Konami.

Steam: Guess what?

"Yeah, but they were/are still pretty good strategy games"

It doesn't stop them being spin-offs though.

Fair enough. I spose you have to have quite abit of patience for MGS, what with all the cut-scenes and that.
