Nintendo News | Etrian Odyssey Details

By Jorge Ba-oh 07.01.2007 6

A few extra details on the upcoming DS RPG from Atlus, Etrian Odyssey, including dungeon mechanics, game length and other interesting tidbits. Thanks to GoNintendo for the update.

Etrian Odyssey is a dungeon exporing RPG for DS in development by Atlus's R&D1 team (who brought Trauma Center, Digital Devil Saga etc)

  • Etrian Odyssey runs at 60fps, DS pushed to its limits to achieve this.
  • Players can draw their own maps and add icons to indicate important things.
  • No quick saving functionality; players can only save at inns.
  • No direct touch screen features, but it does aid the experience.
  • Overall gameplay lasts around 30-40 hours with all tasks complete.
  • Yuzo Koshiro provides various tunes.

Stick with C3 for future updates..

I like the idea of creating your own dungeons (like doing your own maps on Advance Wars), it makes the game last a lot longer!

Some interesting features here, but is the 'no quicksave' feature really a good idea for a handheld game?

I HERD U LIEK TEH MUDKIPZ?

Sounds like an oldschool JRPG. Would like it to be.
I think I own mostly JRPGs for my handhelds...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

30-40 hours with all tasks complete

So thats including side quests?

How long would just the story mode be?

...still i guess thats pretty decent length especially for a handheld.

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

Is 60 FPS really necessary for an RPG? I don't see why...surely the power of the DS could have been put to better use? Hmm, anyway, I've had my eye on this since it was first announced. Seems it's definitely coming to the US, so good news indeed! Smilie

Well, aren't Atlus a US based company anyway? And they just have secondary offices in Japan? Or am I grossly misinformed?
