Nintendo Wii Media | Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn

By Adam Riley 18.01.2007 27

Intelligent Systems has been hard at work on a new entry into the immensely popular Fire Emblem SRPG series, Goddess of Dawn for the Wii, and now we have some new screens of the game.

Fire Emblem: Akatsuki no Megami, to give the game its Japanese moniker, is set for release on 22nd February, 2007 in Japan and has been confirmed as running at 60fps, uses better character models than the GameCube's Path of Radiance, has twice as many movies as its predecessor and now makes use of 3D terrain to influence battles differently.

In addition to this, there will be a Tutorial mode, plus three main difficulty settings: Normal, Hard and Maniac. Unfortunately, the rumour of Path of Radiance being included as a bonus have now apparently been debunked. Overall, though, the game is 1.5 times larger than Path of Radiance and will apparently take around the 40-50 hour mark to complete! Finally, recent scans show that the game now seems to make use of three different input devices - the GameCube, Classic and normal Wii controllers.

Whilst we wait for an official Western release date, why not check out the images in the media folder below?

That's weird, I was just reading a whole article Intelligent Systems and their history over at AMN, came over here and here they are...

Normal, Hard and Maniac.

as if normal mode wasn't hard enough...

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

Can't say I'm a big fan of FE too much like chess, I do enjoy chess but not this game I dunno hard to explain it.

The GameCube game was good but it got boring quickly for me, but i ain't really into these types of games.

double the movies from PoR what, all five of them?

It looks too much like Suikoden.

This game excites in my as little as a game could. It just looks so boring. Sorry!

It looks like there is a new weapon type, it looks like some fancy sword. Dark magic makes a return but why still have the crappy elemental magics separated still? The magic triangle is going to be ruined again.

-Have you any idea what it's like to be a Fembot living in a Manbot's Manputer's world?
-What?

That fancy looking sword, well um its like a sword but about four or five times smaller and has been favoured by thieves for the past few games. (In a Rolf Harris voice) Can you guess what it is yet?

The knife ofcourse, silly me.

I love the Fire Embulem serius and I'm defently looking foward to the release over here. It's good to see that now the terrain will make an influence in battles

has twice as many movies as its predecessor
They should have spent more time putting back the weapon and magic triangles to how they should be rather than putting in pointless movies... And this one better have the awesome promotion system of Sacred Stones... PoR's promotions were boring. The only bad thing about SS's one was the lack of Nomad Troopers... Poor things ;-;

I still don't get the point of making knives an extra weapon instead of just giving the thieves swords either... And what the hell is that little X thingy in the 5th screen

The promotion aspect for SS wasn't that good. Some of the classes were badly gimped, who honestly chose the Paladin over the tank on horseback?

Well all of the classes had their own strnegths and weaknesses. The Paladins had higher Skill, Speed and usually Resistance than the Great knights if I remember correctly...

I really hate Paladins, but that's not the point Smilie

Paladins had a higher resistance and one more movement. Great Knights had far superior armour, access to all three weapons, quite stronger, etc. They were literally Generals on horseback.

Tipical! There is a wonderful looking game out there with crisp cutscenes and cute characters and I do not play these kinds of games. Damn!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Exaclty the same case with me. If it was a regular RPG I would've jumped on it like 9-Volt & 18-Volt jumped on that NES.

Matbe you should, Fire Emblem Smilieacred Stones for GBA is a nice short game with a good pace that is good for FE begginers. It's an excellant series and i cannot wait for this one. Smilie

Yeah well... Paladins just had to be there despite being shite... Tradition Smilie

Also that reminds me... If they don't let you give Generals axes again I'm am seriously going to travel to Japan and STAB whoever is responsible. Watching a General lob a massive fuck-off axe at someone's FACE was the best bit of the GBA Fire Emblems ;-;

You really think so?
I a lame at strategy. Is it possible to get the GC-version and play thru in the most easiest mode? If so, then I think I wait for Wii-FE and maybe pick that up. Because character-design, cuteness and cutscenes are looking good...

Graphically it looks really bland. I wonder when will developers start taking advantages of Wii's processing power, IGN also said there are annoying loading times between fights. In the end it'll probably be a mediocre game that should have been more time in development.

Revolution is the solution.

Yeah the map of Sacred Stones lets you do skirmishes and stuff to level up your characters a bit if you're finding the game too tough, and I think even then it's probably the easiest of the GBA ones. I didn't think I'd like Fire Emblem either, but I'm pretty much obsessed with it now >_>

To the people complaining that IS "ruined" the magic triangle: do you realize that Path of Radiance's triangle actually changing it BACK to how it used to be? In Fire Emblem 4 and 5 (didn't get to America, but considered the best in the series by most anyone who has played them), the triangle was the way it is now.

Chess rocks! It looks good, I'll probably buy it.

Enoch Powell was right, and you know it.

What it was like before is irrelevant, the fact is that it was better the way it was in the GBA ones. Plus, Light > Dark makes far more sense than Fire > Wind or whatever it was...
