Nintendo Rumour | Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Updates

By Jorge Ba-oh 19.01.2007 39

Various unconfirmed Resident Evil rumours have surfaced on the 'net detailing some of the game's story aspects suggesting that the Wii version could make a larger impact in the series than previously thought.

According to a rumour surfacing from NeoGAF, New Quiter has posted an interesting synopsis of Umbrella Chronicles - remember that these are rumours:

  • The game isn't a side story, but an entry into the main series.
  • The story takes place directly after the events of Code Veronica and follows onto Resident Evil 4 (GC/PS2) and leading up to the fifth entry (PS3/Xbox 36).
  • 3 main characters, only Jill is confirmed, Wesker is rumored.
  • Game system follows a similar scheme to RE4.

If the game does indeed play like Resident Evil 4, then it's certainly got my attention! Smilie Really hope these aren't just baseless rumours...The game's due out later this year, isn't it?

Aye, this game is sounding exciting - especially if Capcom manage to develop a successful system for the Wiimote/nunchuck combi. I'd love a tacky lil piece of gun-shaped plastic for the Wiimote to slide into!

I'm hoping that it is set just after resi evil code veronica because i would like to know what did happen next

This is completely different than the official(?) info given out at e3 saying it was going to have a few chapters from each past game, so which is right?

Leon has to be included, he is a hero.

Sounding real good... even for non-confirmed information. Plus if the Wii version really leads up to RE5 version... then Wii60 really makes the experience off the chain. First play the Wii version then pick up your 360 controller to continue the great experience.

Once again why would anyone want to waste money on the PS3!!!

RE5 and REWii are gonna have some challange to topt he best game ever.

RE5 so far is the only reason why i would get a 360.

I am glad that RE Wii is just a side story and Ole is right Leon needs to be included.

Also we need a village like place say in Coloumbia or something like that.

One thing I hated about RE4 was the way you slashed with the knife...

Wii shows the end to this annoyance.

Ok this game will be amazing if there are loads of weapons that you can use the Wiimote to batter things with. Just be ace to hack bits off with the correct motion. Will be very satisfying.

Woooooooo!!!

Capcom do have a habit of completely changing their direction half way through development. But then again, it could just be some hopeful fanboys with a hard on for causing mischief.

Either way, I wouldn't hold too much hope, most effort is obviously going into RE5, the thought of them making two different games at the same time with similar gameplay is pretty proposterus...

One thing we do know is that it will be a far shallower experience than RE5.

Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.

Could be a killer AAA title.

I can see a lot of Xbox360/PS3 owners getting a Wii for this. Smilie

eeer no we don't? just because some might perceive the wii controls as 'gimmicky' and perfect for party play, it doesn't mean that they can't be used within a deeper game

[Game system follows a similar scheme to RE4.]

Both will be more of a shallower experience than RE4 because the Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami ain't at CAPCOM anymore.

Its in between 4 and 5...

So if you just buy the games in logical order and buy 1,2,3,4,5 then the games won't follow on properly?

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

The idea is this game fills the gaps...I dont think anything has changed.
It will be covering the gap before 4 and after 4, with some stuff during 4 as well.

To be sure, its to minimise there asset creation costs during making the game.
It wont be as good as 4, but it could still be very good.

Mercenarys was fantastic fun.

That's a gospel i'm starting to preach Jadnice.

I just hope that they do a good job of the Wii version because did anyone play the Umbrella Chronicles games on the PS2? They Kinda sucked (and no I'm not talking about the Gun survivor games. If Capcom really use this game to fill in the missing holes between Res 1-4 and even use it as a prequal to RE 5 then this is one heck of a game to watch out for.

With perfected Wii functionality and graphics developed from the ground up mmmmmm I keeping a close eye on this one. Capcom knows that Nintendo has the fanbase for RE games, they tested those waters with the Gamecube versions so let's hope they give us a fresh original, visceral, playable product and NOT an after thought, Like Ubisoft seem intent on doing.

The story takes place directly after the events of Code Veronica and follows onto Resident Evil 4 (GC/PS2) and leading up to the fifth entry (PS3/Xbox 36).

I like the idea of playing in the same timeframe as other games in the series because it will give the series a sense of depth. At the moment it's sort of like one character saves the day and then it's upto the next character to do so.

Steam: Guess what?

It'll be great if true, filling in the gap between games and even opening a few opportunities for side quests and one-off characters who maybe useful in future iterations.

Can't wait for this, Capcom will hopefully pull off some solid Wii controls - this is what the system was designed for - exclusive and unique ways to play.

RE4 is legendary, not the best game of all time, but one of. This should hopefully be as good..

We disagree jd my friend RE4 is the king of all games not even the mighty OOT is as good.

I really hope this sells really well, we still might see a dubbed down graphically version of RE5 in the future.

It could even act as creating solid backgrounds for characters in RE5 - as already noted, a supplement, hopefully one good enough to stand on it's own, maybe even essential? (at least in terms of storyline/character development).

Wii seems to be coming of all of a sudden - Sonic and SSX getting very positive previews (just see brand new ones from IGN), hopefully these rumours being true, few new announcements more recently.......

I'm getting excited. It appears it might be builidng.

as long as the game isnt a fps then ill be happy.

wow

If it follows on from RE4 it will be over the shoulder view adopted with RE4 which suits the Resident Evil down to a tee.

My most anticipated athird party title for the Wii

can't wait for this game,if it is follows the same game stlye as RE4 then it will b a very high rated game. It will be up there with the top games, Zelda, Mario, Metroid Prime and SSBB

To be perfectly honest CAPCOM would be stupid not to use the control scheme of RE4 after everyone loved it so much. If we ever see another game with the traditional (AWFUL) RE controls (Or the boring on-rails ones) I'll be amazed...
