    Hiromichi Tanaka, Square Enix
Interview by Adam Riley :: Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Yesterday Cubed3's Adam Riley was lucky enough to be invited to interview Square Enix's Senior Vice President Hiromichi Tanaka on a vast array of subjects. The purpose of Tanaka-san's visit to Europe was to help push the French and German releases of Final Fantasy XI, as well as promote Final Fantasy III on the DS. However, being such a amiable person he was more than open to fielding a few other questions, such as ones related to his http://www.cubed3.com/news/6710/" style='color: #D90000;'>recent comments regarding a Chrono Cross sequel not being forthcoming.

Whilst we wait on the audio file that should be on its way courtesy of Freelance Journalist and Writer Lesley Smith, here are some morsels of information from the questions Adam personally asked about in the quite intimate interview with the man that has reached legendary status now:
  • When asked about the Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary project and whether Nintendo systems would see anything, considering the series started on the NES, he wryly smiled and said that games will be brought to many platforms as part of the project;
  • The issue of the future for the Chrono games was brought up and clarification asked for, due to recent comments saying a sequel to Chrono Cross not being planned. In response, he stated that it certainly is not out of the question Chrono will make a return, and as for seeing Chrono Trigger return in any form (a port, remake or Virtual Console release

    Fantastic, absolutely great news.

Top Interview Adam, another great exclusive! Smilie

    Regards to online FF:
However, the key point to mention is that Square Enix is currently in talks with Nintendo about resolving this point of contention!

Awesome, if S-E are all up for bringing their top games to the Wii Nintendo should do all they can to cater.

    Great work Adam.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the cliché. They were the statement and the definition."

they are in negotiations with Nintendo about FF XI? That's quite good news. Meaning, that they want to do it! That's great, people! Think about it. I always thought, that no core-FF is brought to big Nintendo consoles anymore...! Fingers crossed for FFXIV for Wii. Smilie

Phantasy Star Online on the cube is no different to FinalFantasy in terms of online users.

I dont think Nintendo has anything in principle against lobbys and such, its only they havnt had time to make or run their own.

Friend codes are just like an email address anyway, there no different to an msn system in that way.

I really did exclaim just how much people are eager to see Chrono Trigger make a return in some form.

Same goes for expanding the world of FFXI onto Wii...Did the best I could do Smilie But at least I got that titbit about the negotiations with Nintendo. Thought that'd be the case anyway, considering FFCC should be using the system.

And hallelujah - don't know if you lot have seen how FFI and FFII look on the PSP, but Nintendo fans should not be missing out since the series bloody started on the NES!! Smilie

That was a shame, yes, as it looked fantastic!

As for questions on FFVII, sadly I didn't have time to ask about both that and the FF Anniversary project.

I think if enough people pester Nintendo, then we'll at least see it appear on the Virtual Console.

By the way, just added a titbit about why the original FFs haven't surfaced - just check out the penultimate bullet point Smilie

are you remaking final fantasy V for the psp.
if you are, will you redesign the characters into 3D from the 2D gameplay (which looks much cooler),
    or will you design by
there artwork(which seems to have no fun or color to it),the one used
    in the playstation version...?

Chrono Trigger is one of my most beloved games- I want it on Wii.

"However, the key point to mention is that Square Enix is currently in talks with Nintendo about resolving this point of contention!" -Interview

Everything will be okay if this is resolved, I hope they find agreement eventually.
