Nintendo News: Nintendo News | Square Enix President Discusses Dragon Quest Page 1 at Nintendo Cubed3

President of one of the most successful video game companies, Yoichi Wada of Square Enix, recently spoke in the Japan's Nikkei BP on the company's intentions for the upcoming Dragon Quest for DS and the future of the series.

According to IGN, Wada emphasised the need to develop for what's currently hot in the market. The DS, an incredible success in Japan, lead the developer to create the upcoming Dragon Quest chapter for Nintendo's portable, as opposed to its traditional home console roots.

However, "following portable machines, we see the market for the PlayStation 3 and other next generation consoles taking off, so we will develop for that."

The future of the series is undecided with the company seeing how the DS iteration works out before making any decisions on the sequel to the sequel. Whether or not the DS will remain the primary platform for Dragon Quest is still uncertain.

To end, Wada summed up his beliefs on the future of gaming: "I believe casual gamers will go to the Wii, DS, or even PSP while those who want to have a fuller experience will go to the PS3 and Xbox 360."

I always was and always want to play exclusively on Nintendo-consoles! I was core gamer in Gamecube and I am core gamer on Wii, dammit! Stop doing this shit for Wii all over and deliver core games for Wii! You know why Gamecube slid down the back of the market? Because of this thinking in the quote! *grrrrr*

I agree totally this casual gamer thing is starting to piss me off.

I doubt all these casual gamers will go out and buy Mario Galaxy, MK & SSBB etc in there millions. Smilie

The more interviews of Square-Enix representatives that I read the more I began to dislike them and they way they see the Wii and the DS. First it began with their lack of MMO support for the Wii and now Mr. Wada makes these stupid statements. Consoles do not determine the type of gamer a person is nor does it determine the type of experience a person is looking for, Games do. Make a game

Actually they would (especially Smash Bros., which falls into the catagory of 'party game'). They are not aimed at anyone in particular, and are suitable for everyone. This is the kind of thing that attracts casual gamers, just like summer super-hero blockbusters attract everyone, whereas niche films like Good Night, and Good Luck generally do not attract the casual movie fan.

But xbox is pretty shit.

I really hate how 3rd parties seem to think its impossible to make proper games for the Wii. All last generation console could. And the Wii is a lot more powerful than the PS2.

Everyone here knows I dislike Microsoft greatly and Xbox 1 was just a bunch of black Ugliness around a sloppy PC-Hardware.

I only owned a Gamecube and believe me, that was pretty hard. Not in terms of poor XBox1 but in terms of PS2 with all the good games my friend had - Final Fantasy (was not the best), Ico, Shadow of the Colossus (like Zelda with no one around and only bosses, but it was great), Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Guitar Hero, Grandia, Tales of... and Zone Of The Enders.

But I managed and own quite a lot of games for Cube. So why buying a PS3? You want me to buy a X360? NO WAY!

Ah come on, you say the same thing about gamecube. I think xbox is a good console, but I can see why someone would not think so. I didn't buy one because I have a good PC, and thus not in need of one.

I disagree with his comments on getting a fuller experience of games on the PS3/360. Because more powerful hardware doesn't make a 'fuller' game.

Titles like Metal Gear Solid or Resident Evil 4 managed to be 'full' titles despite lack of graphical power. This can be said for any game. Its not the hardware its the way you use it. Hence I think his point is invalid.

anyway the Wii will have some games that arent for casual gamers... ie. Sadness... i dont see that game as casual... but anyway any game from S-E is good.. and especially if theya re DQ ones!!
