Nintendo's Wii launch was a success for the company - the console completely sold out on a global scale and is still going strong. Nintendo's Vice-President of Marketing & Corporate Affairs, Perrin Kaplan, recently spoke to GameSpy on all things post-Wii launch.
She feels the launch late last year was "fantastic. We're in awe that consumers have embraced it so readily, and that such a wide audience has embraced it, from core gamers to their grandmas."
Kaplan notes the majority of the machine's sales being due to the accessibility of the machine, its "Ease of use. It's an absolute blast coming at a stressful time in the world. Our country's at war, there's weird weather being caused by global warming... sometimes people just need a fun way to take a twenty minute break from the stress." Key titles like Twilight Princess and Wii Sports being firm favorites in the gaming community.
She goes to to explain that the reason to stagger the release of the features, like weather and news channels for example, was to allow people to get to grips with the core features first, or "it would have overloaded the mass consumer."
Finally, when questioned on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for wii, she replied "I can't tell you, as much as I'd like, but I will let people know how the audience feels. I can tell you that you'll absolutely love it. There are some neat surprises."
Certainly good news for the Wii, and whilst nothing terribly new was said, it provides some positive steps for the future.
