Nintendo Media | The Wii is a Disaster

By Jorge Ba-oh 22.02.2007 35

The first shot from the upcoming Monolith Soft project Disaster: Day of Crisis has hit the web, taking players into a frantic third-person survival adventure with the world coming to an end.

Ray, a former member of an elite rescue task force, takes on the world's deadliest disasters - including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and a band of evil rouges set on taking advantage of the situation.

Jeux-France have nabbed the first shot of the game in action, proving to be a disaster.

Day of Crisis is due to hit stores some time this year.

For some reason that reminds me of Hybrid Heaven from the N64...

Wow this is the first i have seen of this. LS

I was really looking forward to this game because Monolith Soft is an awesome developer IMO, but this looks like an early PS2 game! Come on Monolith, you did Baten Kaitos, don't you remember :/ ?

Not much to draw from the single screen. Graphics do not look too impressive to be honest. The storyline sounds a bit generic, but should offer some exciting gameplay.

Oh, and is it just me of does that guy in the screen look like that chappy from X-men, Wolverine.

The concept sounds good, but sadly that screenshot doesn't. I'll reserve tottal judgement until more is revealed.

Enoch Powell was right, and you know it.

There's not much to go by there, but I can see that being reasonable in motion. Certainly the character model looks like it might be of high quality, and that lava could be swish.

Too early to tell, but I'll be keeping my eyes on this one Smilie

I really like the sound of this one and it still is in quite heavy development I'd imagine (not due out until late this year) so I've got high hopes that it will turn out to be an interesting title. Graphically though, as I'm sure everyone can tell, it needs a little work on the environments...

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Judging by the big arrow and the camera angle, that's some sort of QTE. The graphics are also crummy.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I cant wait for this game, seeing as there no 24 game for the gc or wii this is the next best thing. I really cant wait

It's looking better then half the titles that have been released for the Wii so far.

Smilie Thats not really saying much is it.

Enoch Powell was right, and you know it.

Yeah, can't really see anything from that. The character model looks pretty good I'd say, but the lava looks kinda rubbish. Stuff like that needs to be seen in motion though, and I'm guessing that a game which involves lots of volcanoes will have some good looking water-y lava

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Smilie ive got that game it was awsome!! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

As long as the gameplay holds water, the graphic in that screenshot is enough for me honestly. If a game looks totally amazing, it impresses me for the first 10 minutes or so, after that the gameplay has to shine to keep me interested. Visual style on the other hand is another thing. The game seems somewhat generic in that department, although I hardly think its something they are going for, very few games try to take the more artistic approach to graphics, most games try to be the most technically advanced graphic masterpiece of its time, which only lasts so long.

We got movies for the eyecandy, in games I want gameplay, or if graphics are to impress me (and affect the gameplay) they need to be in an artistic way, such games as: Okami, Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker and even Viva Pinata are examples.

Well back to this game, since they don't go for the artistic nor the technical advanced graphics, but what I will classify as "will do" graphics, I hope they deliver on the gameplay. Gameplay is king

It's not THAT bad looking. The character model is decent and the environment isn't so great, but it's not going to make my eyes bleed like some games we've seen. Been looking forward to this one since it was announced, so looking forward to seeing more.

One thing - he's going across a metal bridge over a river of lava. Isn't his hand going to hurt from touching that railing just a little? Smilie

Technically the whole structure should be melting and burning into the lava, this must be CLICHE GAME LAVA that just sits around in strategic pits.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Maybe that's what's actually happening and what the QTE is for, to escape the building coming down around him? Something similar was shown in the original concept/teaser trailer...

Looks alright, in a sort of naff way.

Do I spy Karn in that screenshot?

Ditto. That looks like utter rubbish.

I just don't get why people think this looks terrible at all (the picture I mean). What is shown in this image isn't even close to "crap." No, Bug Island looked crap, this, I could probably argue, may have the potential to actual look about on par with RE4, Silent Hill, etc., at least judging from the quality of the character model. I'm not not trying to say that the game will be great; I'm not pitching that until results are in, I'm just baffled by why so many people think the image here looks "crap." In fact the only thing I find odd in this picture is that the catwalk's "legs" are "standing" on top of the lava (indicated by the "feet" where the bolts that nail the catwalk to the ground are still visible - remove the "feet" and it should look proper). Other than that I think the lava looks good with a nice glow and doesn't look flat, the character looks sharp (I'd say on par with those in Resident Evil, or Silent Hill - my favorite types of character models) with textures that don't look smudgy, etc.

No Wii game is going to end up looking better than GC? Metroid Prime is my last hope really.

It looks nice.
