Japanese Nintendo News | Capcom on Wii, Final Fantasy Tactics DS & More

By Adam Riley 28.02.2007 7

The latest batch of news from various Japanese publications has been revealed, thanks to the folk over at NeoGAF, with morsels about Kingdom Hearts, Wii support and Famitsu review scores.

First up is confirmation that Capcom is bringing a new Devil Kings to Nintendo's Wii this year, under the Japanese name of 'Sengoku Basara 2: Eiyuu Gaiden'. With the original PS2 game doing so well in Europe, Cubed3 certainly has high hopes for this Wii version to be translated as well.

Next is some Square Enix morsels of information, starting with a revelation that the PlayStation 3 project 'Final Fantasy XIII Versus' is currently being worked on by the Kingdom Hearts team (which is also wrapping up It's a Wonderful World on DS at the moment - preview here). Therefore, Tetsuya Nomura has stated no new Kingdom Hearts game will be coming until the PS3 title is completed. However, a new Kingdom Hearts game will actually be 'announced' shortly after the summer period. Could something similar to Chain of Memories be heading to the DS or Wii as previous rumours have suggested? We will simply have to wait and see...But the company does have its 'Square Enix Party 2007' event scheduled for 12th-13th May, 2007, so who knows what treats we will find there.

In other Square Enix news, whilst talking about how the PSP port of Final Fantasy Tactics from the PSone will feature nothing new, nor any voice work (even in FMV sequences!), it was mentioned that details of the DS project 'Final Fantasy Tactics A2' will be unveiled in the very near future. As for the company's latest Mana game, Heroes of Mana, which launches on 8th March, 2007 in Japan, there is a (Japanese) Q & A session over at the official site. The game itself has just scored a very pleasing 32/40 in Famitsu (as can be seen in the reviews below), although this is lower than the 36/40 Children of Mana received.

Check out all the latest reviews below:

  • Seiken Densetsu: Heroes of Mana (NDS, Square Enix): 9 / 8 / 8 / 7 - (32/40)
  • Yoshi's Island DS (NDS, Nintendo): 9 / 7 / 8 / 8 - (32/40)
  • Doraemon: Nobita no Shin Makai Daibouken DS (NDS, Sega): 8 / 8 / 8 / 7 - (31/40)
  • Amekoushi no Kan (PS2, Nippon Ichi): 7 / 8 / 8 / 8 - (31/40)
  • Kenka Banchou 2: Full Throttle (PS2, Spike): 7 / 8 / 7 / 7 - (29/40)
  • Virtua Tennis 3 (PS3, Sega): 8 / 7 / 7 / 6 - (28/40)
  • Bomberman Land Wii (Wii, Hudson): 7 / 6 / 7 / 7 - (27/40)
  • Karous (DC, MileStone): 6 / 6 / 6 / 7 - (25/40)
  • On top of all this, Sega Sammy has apparently announced Jissen Pachi-Slot Pachinko Hissh

I had high hopes for Karous but I'm a bit scared now... Trigger Heart Exelica disappointed me because it was too easy and I hated Last Hope, so...
I'll try it though, since I do not trust Famitsu at all these days, but I think I'll stick on Ikaruga and Under Defeat a bit longer.

Really looking forward to FFTA2, loved FFTA.

I would hope that KH game will be on the DS seeing the vast popularity of it and the ever growing list of SE support. More RPG goodness!!

Bomberman Land looked awful in those E3 videos so I'm surprised that it got 27/40. Also, if DS or Wii get a Kingdom Hearts game, I'll personally win the lottery and buy Squenix and give them all complimentary hugs.

Look it up, its a fact Smilie

Can't wait for Final Fantasy Tactics 2 either! Bring it on, Square!

I've only just started playing Final Fantasy XII today, and it's fantastic so far. The battle system is a bit confusing, but that's because I'm not used to it yet. It's set in the same world (Ivalice) as Tactics, too!

And give us a proper Wii Final Fantasy while your at it, please!Smilie

    FF Tactics 2...*drool*

Is Final Fantasy Tactics similiar to Fire Emblem and Advanced Wars?

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

Square Enix have said that a ground up new Wii game will appear, it will not be derived, they have not given any details on the title and will not be doing so until next year, this is what was said in japan after the success of the FF3 on the DS. LS
