you could easily replace the motions with buttons with no cost to the experience.
I would debate this somewhat, I've mentioned before I found Twilight Princess to be more fun just with a bit of waggling chucked in.
Even if the game wasn't responding to exactly what I did I was still acting out left, right, upper cut (which does get recognized partially) and that was enjoyable.
Exact movements wouldn't work in Zelda anyway so it was a nice balance, it felt somewhere near doing the real actions like a sim, but not so much that it complicated Zelda's gameplay.
It was nice, though I would like something more for the next Zelda, I don't think theres anything wrong with gesture controls just so long as they don't become the only thing on offer in the long run because of laziness.
