A rumour has cropped up regarding some projects Nintendo is currently working on for the Wii console, Mario Kart included. Check out the list below:

    EAD Software Development Group No.1

  • Wii Health (2007)
  • Mario Kart (2008)

  • EAD Software Development Group No.2

  • Wii Music (2007)
  • Animal Crossing Wii (2008)
  • Wii Motorsports (TBA)

  • EAD Software Development Group No.3

  • The Legend of Zelda: Wii (2009)

  • EAD Software Development Group No.4

  • Big Brain Academy Wii (2007)

  • EAD Software Development Group No.5

  • Super Mario Galaxy (2007)

  • It needs to be remembered that this is not an extensive list, so there will likely be many other projects underway, but it is pleasing to see the likes of Mario Kart and the already talked about new Zelda iteration, specifically made for Wii. Share your thoughts on this list in the forum below.

2009, that should be enough time for them to truly make an epic Zelda, hopefully a refreshing one as well.

Interesting to see Wii Motorsports in there.

Where'd this come from? Hasn't GoNintendo just shot down the "new Wii Zelda and Mario Kart" rumour?

Wouldn't Wii Motorsports negate the need for an online sequel to Excite Truck? It still sounds awesome though, I imagine the graphics would be suitably sweet and colourful too. As for "The Legend of Zelda: Wii", well, it cannot come soon enough.

If they refine the controls of Excitetruck and use that for Mario Kart. It could very well work.

A new Zelda? 2009? Yeah sure...

Yep, I think that when Mario Kart does finally appear we'll see some big changes this time round.

A new Zelda? 2009? Yeah sure...

We'll there was only 2.5 years between Majora's Mask and Wind Waker. Let's hope it's true.

There may have only been 2.5 years between MM and OoT, but they were built on the same game engine. This one will likely be entirely from scratch.

And 2009 is a long development cycle for Zelda Wii, especially considering that the game has already been in development for over a year.

Zelda should be more epic and beautiful than TP since its a proper Wii game.
I'm quite intreged to how Mario Kart will work on Wii.

Actually, in the Iwata Asks articles (over at Wii.com/co.uk/wherever they were) the basic opinion was that they'll probably never beat the epic scale of TP. TP was as big and beautiful as it was, mostly because they were given a whole extra year to mess about with it.
If a new Zelda appears for the Wii within 2 years, I really won't expect it to be Bigger + Better. More of the same, or maybe a whole new style like WW was.

It's just a rumour, remember that. It's just a rumour...

    (pause)

ABOUT BLOODY TIME! Four of these games either are on my most wanted list or just shot onto it. MK and AC have been announced, as has a new Zelda. This is all the news some of us need to prove to the rest that our console wasn't a mistake buy. (Even if it might have been a good idea to wait before rushing out and buying the thing...)

The Zelda team will have to dig deep and get the best out of the newly fledged members this time around, and not have them wasting time on things with no real direction of their use in the final game.

Miyamoto saved the day last time around, if it were not for him and his upending TP would have been a disaster on the Wii.

Those 4 young designers that were plucked by Nintendo from other teams to work on the project have had a babtism of fire, some of them including the young designer who created the actual Link 3D character model will go onto to do great things with the company some day.

Development has already started by them reserch team by all accounts, Eiji Aonuma has been busy with PH but has been checking in on the team next door.

If anyone wishes to talk about Zelda in greater detail do so in the Zelda thread, im feeling lonely. LS

My thoughts on what happened with the development of TP are there.

Actually, if this is true I'd bet they use the same engine with some upgrades (i.e., Make it Wii only and take advantage of the increased CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.).

That's a way better use of their time than starting over from scratch...they'd never be able to do a completely new game AND make a new engine in 2.5 years, but if they continued using the same tools, they could do it.

PS: The original comment you referenced said there were 2 years between Majora's Mask and Wind Waker (not OoT and MM). Since WW was on a new platform, they were probably using a new engine (where as OoT and MM were probably using the same engine).

I suspect that WW and TP were using the same basic engine (since TP was originally intended to be a GC game), but with a different rendering pipeline (using complex textures instead of cell-shaded colors). But, since it was both a Wii and GC game, the engine itself (and the tools) were almost certainly the same. The content was the same as well (which is why TP looks like an awesome GC game, but not so great as a Wii game...which will become more apparent as more real Wii games are release Smilie

This is why you're an asset to the site! Smilie The future of Zelda on Wii has already been spoken of twice in recent times. The first was that Nintendo is working on a Tingle Wii game instead of a main Zelda, and the second was that TP was the last of any Zelda seen before...presumably meaning the next main entry into the series will differ considerably.

Can't wait, whatever the case Smilie
