To celebrate the fact that Gyakuten Saiban 4 is doing so well on the Nintendo DS at the moment (with 160,000 sales in just one day out of a stock of 400,000 and Mainichi Interactive is reporting roughly 250,000 have been sold for the whole week!), Jonnyram of NeoGAF.com has compiled another list of Media Create sales numbers that are accurate as of 4th March, 2007 and show just how well the series has done in the past. Check out the results below, ordered in terms of highest sales first:
1.) Gyakuten Saiban 2 (GBA, 18th October, 2002) - 176,953
2.) Gyakuten Saiban 3 (GBA, 23rd January, 2004) - 173,336
3.) Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten Best Price! (NDS, 15th June, 2006) - 148,552
4.) Gyakuten Saiban Best Price! (GBA, 18th October, 2002) - 129,630
5.) Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten (includes limited edition) (NDS, 15th September, 2005) - 128,842

9.) Gyakuten Saiban (GBA, 12th October, 2001) - 58,877
From this you can clearly see that the series started off quite slowly with the first entry, but picked up due to word-of-mouth so much that its re-release a year later easily sold more than twice the amount. Over the years the game has peaked around the ~175,000 mark, but looks as if the new DS game is set to break all records with ease.
Grouping the various editions together, you get the following results, all of which again will likely be beaten by Gyakuten Saiban 4 on DS:
It certainly makes for interesting reading and shows that Capcom has a long-term strong selling series that should eventually make its way to a fifth DS entry and even a Wii game.
Stick around later in the week for the full Media Create chart update...
